Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated fluency
- Previous experience interpreting in a school setting preferred
- Ability to provide 1:1 communication support to students
- Understanding of the nuances of student–interpreter interaction
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and fostering inclusivity
- Appropriate certification or licensure as required by state regulations
Responsibilities:
- Deliver accurate sign language interpretation between students and staff throughout the school day
- Support a single student’s access to classroom instruction, activities, and school events
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to facilitate seamless communication
- Advocate for students’ communication needs as appropriate
- Contribute to Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings if requested
- Maintain timely documentation and uphold professional standards
