Advanced Practice Provider - Inpatient Neurosurgery

Position Overview

The Advanced Practice Provider in Inpatient Neurosurgery is essential for delivering comprehensive care to patients undergoing neurosurgical evaluation, treatment, and recovery. Operating under a PA Agreement in collaboration with neurosurgeons, this role involves providing direct inpatient care, coordinating multidisciplinary management, and ensuring seamless continuity of care from admission to discharge.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conducting daily rounds on neurosurgical patients, documenting progress notes, and updating care plans.
• Overseeing the management of pre- and post-operative neurosurgical patients, including monitoring neurological status, wound care, and pain management.
• Assisting in the operating room during neurosurgical procedures.
• Performing bedside procedures under the supervision of a physician.
• Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests (CT, MRI, labs) and modifying treatment plans as necessary.
• Collaborating with neurosurgeons, hospitalists, intensivists, nursing staff, rehabilitation specialists, and case managers to enhance patient outcomes.
• Engaging in discharge planning, educating patients and families, and facilitating transitions to outpatient follow-up.
• Addressing inpatient consults and acute neurosurgical concerns, including urgent evaluations in the ICU, step-down units, and emergency department.
• Contributing to quality improvement initiatives, risk management, and compliance programs related to neurosurgical services.
