Special Education Teacher (Dual Position)

Watertown-Mayer Public Schools is seeking a passionate, student-centered Special Education Teacher to join our collaborative team. This unique position offers the opportunity to work with both kindergarten and first-grade students, providing specialized instruction that builds strong academic and social-emotional foundations during the first half of the day, while spending the second half supporting students in our Middle/High School Developmental Cognitive Disabilities (DCD) program as they develop academic, functional, communication, and independent living skills. Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, with a focus on meeting academic, social, emotional, and behavioral goals.
• Provide differentiated instruction and accommodations to support the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities in inclusive and resource settings.
• Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated support for students with disabilities.
• Assess student progress regularly and adjust instructional strategies and interventions accordingly.
• Implement evidence-based interventions and behavioral supports to address challenging behaviors and promote positive social interactions.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress, including IEP goals, progress reports, and behavior intervention plans.
• Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, goals, and strategies for support.
• Participate in professional development activities to stay abreast of best practices in special education and evidence-based interventions for students with disabilities.
• Adhere to all state and federal regulations governing special education services and maintain compliance with Individualized Education Program (IEP) requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Coordinator or building administration.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field (Master's degree preferred).
• Valid teaching license or certification in Special Education.
• Experience working with students with disabilities.
• Strong understanding of evidence-based practices in special education and familiarity with behavioral interventions and supports.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and families.
• Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and provide accommodations to meet the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The salary range can be found on our union-negotiated 2025-2027 contract: $44,807-$83,365.
