Staff Accountant

Position Summary

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to support our accounting and financial operations. This role will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end close, managing job cost tracking, and ensuring data integrity across systems including Sage 300 and Jobber .

The ideal candidate has strong accounting fundamentals, experience in construction or service-based environments, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting

• Maintain general ledger accounts and ensure accurate financial reporting
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
• Analyze financial data and investigate discrepancies or variances

Accounts Payable & Receivable

• Process vendor invoices and ensure proper job and cost coding
• Support customer billing and invoicing functions
• Reconcile customer payments and vendor balances
• Monitor aging reports and assist with collections efforts

Job Costing & Project Accounting

• Track and allocate project costs (labor, materials, subcontractors)
• Ensure accurate job costing in Sage 300 and Jobber
• Review budget vs. actual costs and assist with variance reporting
• Partner with project managers to provide financial insights

Systems & Reporting

• Utilize Sage 300 for accounting, job costing, and reporting
• Ensure accurate job and invoice data flows through Jobber
• Reconcile discrepancies between systems
• Support process improvements and system efficiencies

Compliance & Controls

• Follow accounting policies and internal controls
• Support audits and provide required documentation
• Maintain accurate and organized financial records

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• 2-4 years of accounting experience (construction or service industry preferred)
• Experience with Sage 300 (preferred)
• Experience with Jobber or similar field service software (preferred)
• Strong understanding of job costing and project-based accounting
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• High attention to detail and organization
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
