About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Stepdown Profession: RN Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Candidates must not be full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with the employer. Fingernail policy: Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care. RN's must pass an open book exam on skills learned during orientation. A 90% score is required to pass, or the contract will be terminated. A driver's license is required and will be used to determine candidate eligibility. Description: This is a fast-paced floor. The department consists of 35 beds. Patient-to-nurse ratios are 1:4-5. Common patients include adults and geriatrics with cardiac conditions, nephrology issues, strokes, diabetes, and continuous EEG monitoring. RNs are required to titrate drips. Common titratable and/or set rate drips include Cardizem, beta blockers, and seizure medications. There is a Charge Nurse on each shift who also takes an assignment. Nursing aids/patient care techs are available, with ratios of 1:10 or 2:20. Shifts run from 0630-1900 or 1830-0700. Weekend requirements are every other weekend. Holiday requirements are every third holiday. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating to medical floors, ICU, or rehab may be necessary. The first week includes onboarding, followed by 1-2 days of floor orientation. Attributes that will help a nurse succeed on this unit include a positive attitude, willingness to help others, good communication skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. RTO (request time off) should be provided upfront, with limitations on additional requests after submission. Cancellations may occur up to 4 shifts for 13-week assignments. Charting is done using the EPIC system. A BSN is not required. This position operates in a trauma level 2 care setting within the acute division.
