About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stepdown Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: 1 year of experience with intermediate care and downgraded CVICU patients Description: The unit has 18 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 and 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours. The unit supports patients requiring intermediate care and patients from CVICU. Common diagnoses include cath lab patients, CVAs, CHF, A fib RVR, and other cardiac and vascular-related issues. RNs are required to titrate drips, including Amiodarone, Nitro, Nicardipine, Epi, and Cardizem for blood pressure management. There is a Charge Nurse on each shift, though it is rare for them to take an assignment. Patient care techs are present, with a ratio of 1:18. A hospitalist and intensivist are in-house 24/7, with cardiology on call after hours. Respiratory Therapy services are available in the unit 24/7. The facility uses remote tele techs and hardwired monitoring systems. RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips. Shifts are scheduled by management; there is no self-scheduling. Weekend requirements are every other weekend. Floating may be required to same level and lower levels of acuity. Scrub color is navy blue. RTO must be provided upfront, with limitations on additional requests during the contract. The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts for a 13-week assignment. The charting system used is EPIC. BSN is not required.
