Controls Engineer II

Role Description

The Controls Engineer II will be developing, programming, and commissioning automation control systems from concept through implementation. This role involves:

• Creating virtual commissioning environments using Emulate3D
• Developing PLC logic programs
• Designing SCADA and HMI applications within Ignition and FactoryTalk Optix Studio platforms
• Designing and documenting detailed electrical control systems
• Producing electrical schematics and panel assembly drawings using AutoCAD Electrical

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Working with multiple cross-functional engineers to bring a solution from concept to reality
• Working closely with cross-functional teams to integrate conveyor control solutions, automated material handling equipment, and autonomous vehicles
• Creating and maintaining electrical schematic drawings
• Developing and debugging controls system software
• Providing technical expertise in controls and electrical engineering
• Performing on-site commissioning support when required
• Performing necessary electrical field wiring
• Performing necessary mechanical installation when required
• Performing design and code reviews

Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters in: Controls Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering
• 5+ years of experience in control systems engineering with a Bachelors degree or 3+ years with a Masters degree

Requirements

• Ability to develop PLC programs and HMI programs
• Proficiency reading schematics and troubleshooting existing control systems including software debugging and electrical troubleshooting
• Experience commissioning and troubleshooting VFDs
• Proficiency with: Studio 5000/RSLogix, FactoryTalk View, and AutoCAD
• Ability to lead and/or assist in project definition, specification, purchasing follow-through to installation
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills in software and hardware
• Excellent written and oral communications skills, and strong interpersonal skills
• Job will require up to a maximum of 50% travel

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience commissioning and troubleshooting servo drives
• SQL Management experience
• Inductive Automation Ignition experience
• Familiarity with Beckhoff hardware and TwinCAT programming environment
• Understanding of computer networking concepts and architecture
• Warehouse operations management experience or experience with warehouse management and/or execution systems
