Neonatal Pediatric Registered Respiratory Therapist

Job Summary

The Neonatal Pediatric Registered Respiratory Therapist will provide specialized respiratory care and support for pediatric and neonatal patients, utilizing advanced therapeutic modalities and techniques. The role requires proficiency in various respiratory therapies, airway management, and patient education to ensure optimal outcomes for this vulnerable population.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer medicated aerosol therapy using small volume nebulizers, breath actuated nebulizers, and vibrating mesh nebulizers.
• Provide patient education on aerosol therapy, metered-dose inhalers (MDI), dry-powder inhalers (DPI), and holding chambers.
• Manage airway clearance therapies, including positive expiratory pressure (PEP), high-frequency chest wall oscillation, and cough assist techniques.
• Perform suctioning, tracheostomy care, and assist with intubation and mechanical ventilation as needed.
• Conduct ventilator system checks and manage CPAP/BiPAP/NIMV and negative pressure ventilation.
• Administer surfactant and follow neonatal resuscitation protocols during high-risk deliveries.
• Ensure accurate blood gas sampling, analysis, and interpretation.
• Implement humidity therapy using heated humidity and various delivery devices.
• Monitor patient status utilizing pulse oximetry, capnography, and other respiratory diagnostic tools.
• Transport patients, ensuring optimal respiratory support through portable equipment.
• Participate in respiratory care consultations and adhere to clinical practice guidelines for specialized care.

Qualifications

• Registered Respiratory Therapist with current licensure.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) certification.
• Experience working in pediatric and neonatal intensive care settings preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective patient and family interactions.

Work Environment

This position involves working in various specialized units, including Pediatric ICU, Neonatal ICU, Pediatric Cardiac ICU, emergency rooms, and general respiratory care areas. Flexibility and adaptability are essential for success in this dynamic clinical environment.
