Job Description

Lead and develop a team of maintenance technicians responsible for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and facility systems in an industrial manufacturing environment. Coordinate and oversee daily maintenance activities, preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and continuous improvement initiatives to maximize equipment uptime, support production goals, and ensure a safe and compliant operation.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead a team of maintenance technicians across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and facility systems.

• Coordinate daily maintenance activities to ensure safe, timely, and effective completion of work orders.

• Plan, schedule, and oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime.

• Troubleshoot and resolve equipment failures, supporting root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.

• Monitor maintenance performance metrics, including equipment downtime, preventive maintenance compliance, and maintenance costs.

• Ensure compliance with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental requirements.

• Collaborate closely with production leadership to prioritize maintenance activities and support operational goals.

• Manage contractor activities and ensure adherence to site safety, quality, and operational standards.

• Support equipment installations, capital improvement projects, and equipment startup activities.

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records using CMMS and other documentation systems.

• Develop team members through coaching, training, performance management, and ongoing skills development.

• Participate in budget planning and manage maintenance-related expenditures responsibly.

• Promote and drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, efficiency, quality, and safety.

• Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals to guide maintenance activities.

• Support troubleshooting of automated manufacturing systems and PLC-controlled equipment.

Essential Skills

• 3+ years of maintenance leadership or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.

• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

• Experience troubleshooting industrial equipment and production machinery.

• Experience with PLC troubleshooting and automated manufacturing systems.

• Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, develop, and motivate a maintenance team.

• Effective communication skills to collaborate with production leadership, contractors, and cross-functional teams.

• Strong organizational skills to plan, schedule, and prioritize maintenance activities.

• Hands-on experience in maintenance management and maintenance supervision.

• Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other Continuous Improvement methodologies.

• Familiarity with maintenance management systems and CMMS tools.

• Experience working with automated manufacturing systems and industrial controls.

• Ability to interpret and work from electrical and mechanical schematics.

• Experience as a maintenance technician with exposure to a broad range of industrial equipment.

• Demonstrated ability to support capital improvement projects and equipment upgrades.

Work Environment

This role is based in an industrial manufacturing facility that is hot and dirty throughout most of the plant, requiring comfort working in a demanding, hands-on environment. The position follows a night shift schedule from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m. on a rotating pattern of 2 days on, 2 days off, followed by 3 days on, 3 days off. Overtime is currently unlimited and voluntary, providing flexibility for those who want additional hours. You will work around automated manufacturing systems, industrial machinery, and a variety of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment, with a strong emphasis on safety and adherence to site procedures.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shelbyville, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $42.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
