Category Manager

Overview The Category Manager supports Stanford Health Care’s Category Management, working across the Clinical Enterprise to establish best‑value procurement and supply chain activities for all SHC entities. The role drives contract coverage, compliance, cost reduction initiatives and collaboration with the Value Based Selection group. Responsibilities Service Negotiate pricing and contracts for products, product groups and services with business leaders. Provide spend informatics support for business, financial and operational data analysis to identify process and resource‐utilization improvements. Act as day‑to‑day contact for GPO and supplier representatives. Generate lines of credit, contract activations and GPO tier analysis. Develop RFIs, RFQs and RFPs; incorporate terms, evaluate bids and select vendors. Ensure contracts contain appropriate terms and comply with all financial, local, and regulatory specifications. Audit contracts for GPO agreement compliance and vendor performance. Support SHC and LPCH vendor‑management policies and audit vendor compliance. Collaborate with stakeholders on effective cost‑reduction strategies. Analyze contracts to achieve best‑value decisions. Coordinate a team of analysts and data specialists supporting Category Management. Operations Manage catalog and contract information within Master Data Management. Support Value Based Selection program, Patient Care VAT and SOP framework. Conduct contract administration, price analysis and negotiation. Plan and implement process and technology changes. Monitor contract volume, supply‑chain performance and purchasing flows; report outcomes and recommend enhancements. Finance & Strategy Segment category strategically and conduct comprehensive market analyses to develop short, medium and long‑term strategies. Leverage tools and benchmarks (e.g., ECRI, Spendlink) for market knowledge and price sourcing. Implement Non‑Labor Spend savings initiatives and document successes. Communicate savings and engage end users in process or product conversion. Quality & Safety Adhere to HIPAA, BAA and other federal, state and regulatory requirements. Facilitate implementation of new policies and procedures to align with best practices. People Build relationships with clinicians, leaders, external providers and suppliers. Implement performance and quality measures to maintain high service levels and cost‑effectiveness. Develop and mentor staff to add value and foster customer service spirit. Present to internal and external stakeholders. Additional Duties Perform other related duties as needed or assigned. Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline from an accredited institution. Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management or Business Administration preferred. Experience Minimum five (5) years of experience in Value Analysis, Contract Administration, Vendor Management or Purchasing. Preferred: Experience in supply chain or category management within a hospital or health‑care system. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Apply judgment and make informed decisions. Communicate effectively and formulate conclusions from analysis. Demonstrate end‑to‑end knowledge of supply‑chain processes and financial statements. Understand impact of new price agreements. Prioritize work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment. Build consensus and manage relationships. Operate multiple supply‑chain systems independently. Plan, organize and meet deadlines. Use relevant computer systems and software. Know inventory, billing systems and regulatory requirements. Licenses & Certifications Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) preferred.
