E&P AP Specialist

Job Title: Accounts Payable (AP) Specialist Location: North Houston, TX Compensation: $30.00 / hour Benefits: This position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k). Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Specialist to join our accounting team in North Houston. This role is responsible for processing vendor invoices, managing payment activities, reconciling vendor accounts, and supporting month‑end close. The ideal candidate has prior Exploration & Production (E&P) industry experience , a strong understanding of oil and gas accounting processes, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment. Key Responsibilities Accounts Payable Processing Review, code, and process vendor invoices accurately and timely. Verify invoice approvals and supporting documentation prior to payment processing. Match invoices to purchase orders, field tickets, and supporting documentation when applicable. Research and resolve invoice discrepancies with vendors and internal departments. Vendor & Joint Interest Support Communicate with vendors regarding payment status, account inquiries, and discrepancies. Maintain accurate vendor records and supporting documentation. Assist with vendor statement reconciliations and issue resolution. Support oil and gas‑related AP transactions and vendor relationships. Payment Processing Prepare and process ACH payments, wire transfers, and check runs. Ensure payments are completed according to company policies and payment terms. Maintain organized records of payment activity and supporting documentation. Reconciliation & Month‑End Close Perform accounts payable reconciliations and account analysis. Assist with month‑end close activities and accrual preparation. Support audit requests and provide AP documentation as needed. Prepare reports related to vendor activity and accounts payable balances. Administrative & Accounting Support Maintain accurate electronic and physical financial records. Ensure compliance with company policies and internal controls. Assist with process improvements to increase efficiency within the AP department. Support the accounting team with special projects as assigned. Qualifications 3+ years of accounts payable experience required. Exploration & Production (E&P) industry experience required. Oil & gas accounting experience strongly preferred. Experience with ERP/accounting systems preferred. Strong Excel skills including formulas, reconciliations, and data analysis. Excellent organizational and problem‑solving abilities. Strong communication skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
