Job Summary
Join The Avenue, a premier coastal French American restaurant in Long Branch, NJ, as a Sous Chef. We deliver an elevated dining experience with a 100-check average and a focus on exceptional cuisine. We are seeking a highly skilled sous chef with a passion for fine dining and a proven track record in upscale, high-volume restaurants. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a sophisticated, fast-paced kitchen alongside a talented hospitality team dedicated to quality and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Kitchen Operations
- Oversee daily kitchen operations, ensuring consistency and excellence in food preparation and presentation
- Collaborate with the Executive Chef to create and execute seasonal French American menus
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organization, and safety throughout the kitchen
- Monitor inventory, ordering, and cost controls for a $4 million+ full-service restaurant
- Team Leadership
- Lead, train, and mentor kitchen staff to uphold restaurant standards and drive continuous improvement
- Foster a positive, professional culture within the kitchen and broader hospitality team
- Ensure effective communication between front-of-house and kitchen staff for seamless guest service
- Food Preparation
- Assist with hands-on food preparation during peak service times
- Uphold and execute the highest standards of food quality and consistency
Requirements
- Culinary degree or equivalent professional certification required
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a sous chef or higher in a $4 million+ full-service restaurant
- Previous experience in Michelin-star or upscale dining establishments is highly preferred
- Expertise in French American cuisine a plus
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Availability to work full-time, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required
Schedule
Full-time position. Must be available for evenings, weekends, and holidays based on restaurant needs.
