The city is known for its contemporary public art, historic architecture, thriving downtown cultural district, and abundant public parks, including the scenic Lynn Shore Reservation and the expansive Lynn Woods Reservation. Lynn Public Schools is a linguistically and culturally rich community, with 60% of our students speaking two or more languages. Lynn Public Schools proudly serves approximately 17,000 students across 29 school sites within a diverse and dynamic educational landscape. Qualifications Valid license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Moderate Disabilities, 5 - 12 . Bachelor's Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred SEI Endorsement Additional content area licensure is encouraged Licensure requirements and validity are subject to change at the discretion of DESE Understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism, and bias, and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities Knowledge of current education legislation/regulations Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents and advocate for children to problem solve Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and ability to work with all stakeholders Experience in an urban district/setting preferred Ability to meet the expectations of the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice Performance Responsibilities Responsible for effective planning and assessment of curriculum and instruction Meet and instruct assigned students in the locations and at the time designated Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students Provide effective instruction and culturally responsive teaching, including clear learning goals and appropriate instructional questioning techniques Provide small-group instruction to students diagnosed with moderate to severe cognitive delays to support progress in the general curriculum Write and implement goals and objectives consistent with student IEPs and provide timely progress reports Provide needed accommodations for student learning and testing when required Collaborate as a team member within the school to support other staff in addressing student needs Use innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including technology, to increase student learning and confidence Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interests Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement and behavior Guide learning toward curriculum standards with clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects Implement the district\'s mission, philosophy of education, and instructional standards Assess and document student progress regularly and provide progress reports as required Document learning problems and seek district specialist support as needed Maintain accurate records as required by law and policy Assist administration in implementing policies and establish fair classroom rules and procedures Be available to students and parents outside instructional hours when required Strive to maintain professional competence related to assignment and subject area Attend staff meetings as required Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with others Maintain open lines of communication with students, colleagues, and parents on academic and behavioral progress Promote equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning, including strategies for students with special needs, 504 plans, and second language learners Establish a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment with positive behavior standards Engage with families and community members to support collaborative learning and equity for all learners Use curricula that reflect the diverse backgrounds of the students served Support students with disabilities in a general education setting Differentiate learning for students who are second language learners Performance of other job-related duties as assigned Terms of Employment As negotiated with Lynn School Committee and Lynn Teachers Union 180 days per year Teacher Salary Estimator Benefits The City of Lynn offers comprehensive and competitive health and dental benefits; Harvard Pilgrim PPO/HMO, Altus Dental, and Vision Insurance.
