Temporary Laboratory Phlebotomist/Specimen Receiving Tech

Position Overview The purpose of this position is to provide direct patient care services in a community clinic laboratory setting to adult and pediatric patients, which includes phlebotomy, computer data entry, laboratory supply ordering, and clerical services. This temporary position is located at the Community-University Health Care Center in Minneapolis, MN. Appointment Term: Up to 67 working days FTE: 1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week Number of openings: 1 Work hours/days: Monday - Friday with some Saturdays, 8:00am - 4:30pm Essential Functions and Responsibilities Perform specimen collection (50% FTE) Venipuncture Capillary Collection Infant Capillary Collection Distribution of specimen collection materials and information Perform lab processes with the use of the Laboratory Information System and Clinic Electronic Health Record System. Perform Laboratory Requisition release process Perform Lab Only process Reprint collection labels In the Laboratory Supplies Area: Order and maintain Phlebotomy Room and Specimen Collection Supplies (10% FTE) Stock all phlebotomy carts daily Request the order of supplies for the Phlebotomy Room area as needed Maintain supply closet Daily cleaning of the phlebotomy area Communicates effectively with Laboratory Staff, Providers, Clinic staff and patients (15% FTE) Daily interaction with providers and laboratory staff. Hand out specimen collection kits and collection information. Maintains quality of work by following CUHCC Laboratory Procedure Manual and Quality Assurance policies and procedures (10% FTE) Performs the Annual review of the Laboratory Procedure Manual Receives and processes specimens and uses a Laboratory centrifuge (15% FTE) Working knowledge of laboratory centrifuges Able to properly process laboratory specimens. Arrange for specimen sample transport to the reference laboratory for testing. Qualifications Required Qualifications: High School graduate or equivalent Graduate of an approved phlebotomy training program or equivalent type of training (e.g. Medical Assistant, Nursing program, or Military training) and relevant experience to equal 2 years. This position requires a negative TB test and a Hepatitis B vaccination. Preferred Qualifications: Phlebotomy certified or certification‑ready Be able to stand for long periods of time Pay and Benefits Pay Range: Between $23.30/hr (step 1) - $24.19/hr (step 3); depending on education, qualifications, and experience.
