Position Details Position: Life Skills Coach 1 | Location: Gardena (Crenshaw – Community‑Based Program) | Hours: Full‑time - Monday‑Friday - 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. | Hourly Starting Pay Rate: $20.00 per hour | CPR/First Aid certification is provided for Adult Day Services. Excellent Monday‑through‑Friday work schedule; no weekends or evenings. Full‑time positions eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits; 401(k) program; tuition reimbursement of up to $5,250 per year; student loan counseling program; 15 days of paid time off; 11 paid holidays. Position Overview Supports the delivery of high quality, person‑centered, outcome‑based adult day services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Directly assists individuals with the planning and selection of activities and life‑skills learning experiences, and achievement of individual goals that foster self‑awareness, personal growth, and independence while at the service and beyond. Provides emotional support, supervision and personal care to individuals in the service. Essential Functions Assists individuals with their assessments, planning, and the evaluation process. May support individuals in preparing for and attending meetings with their support team, and advocate and facilitate changes to the service plan as necessary. Assists in the development and implementation of an Individual Service Plan consistent with the individual’s personal goals. Maintains required documentation and data, including ISPs, quarterly and annual evaluations, and case notes. Assists individuals with the selection of person‑centered activities and life‑skills learning experiences in accordance with their desires, ISP, and Individual Program Plan objectives. Collaborates with other direct‑support associates in planning and delivering activities consistent with individual and service objectives. Supervises individuals while they are at the service and provides personal‑care support as required, including nutrition, personal hygiene, and assistance with appearance. Supports individuals in finding a preferred way to communicate needs and choices and educates them in using the appropriate tools to find their voice. Safely and effectively uses all related technology, alternative communication, and adaptive equipment. Trains individuals in the use of assistive technology as directed. Follows procedures, standards, guidelines, and best practices established by the service line, and complies with applicable regulations to ensure health and safety and quality of services. Attends in‑service trainings and meetings as required. Performs other duties as assigned. Education High school diploma; valid CPR and First Aid certifications. Experience 2–4 years of related experience is preferred, or the combination of education, experience, and training to perform the job successfully. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of person‑centered programming approaches that provide purposeful, meaningful activities. Ability to actively listen, show patience, and demonstrate empathy in communication with individuals. Creative, flexible problem‑solving skills; able to organize and complete tasks in a timely manner. Follow written and oral directions; take initiative; work effectively with team members and volunteers. Maintain positive relationships with associates, stakeholders, families, caregivers, and the public. Demonstrate sound judgment, discretion, and ability to handle sensitive, confidential matters. Ability to interpret and follow policies, procedures, and regulations. Basic computer proficiency; input information into service‑line applications. Provide personal‑care assistance, including transferring individuals with no weight‑bearing skills. Resolve conflicts and remain calm in stressful environments. Lift up to 50 pounds repetitively. Walk, stoop, stand, and kneel for extended periods. Push wheelchairs across varied terrain. Tolerate outdoor work conditions with changing weather. Move and rearrange furniture for activities. Travel locally with individuals to participate in related activities. Obtain and maintain a criminal‑record/fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation as required. Provide proof of required vaccinations or positive titers indicating immunity. Pass post‑offer medical examination and tuberculosis test. Pass all drug testing required by ESSC. Physical Requirements Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and lifting; occasional travel; repetitive motion; bending, twisting, stooping, reaching, pulling, kneeling, and pushing wheelchairs across various terrain. Visual acuity for close and peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
