Accounting Manager

Client: Financial Services Org. Role: Accounting Manager Salary: $125.000 - $150,000/annually + Bonus Location: Downtown, Manhattan - *3 days a week onsite - 2 days WFH* Job Description Financial Close & Reporting: Support accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual closes. Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and regulatory deliverables in compliance with US GAAP and internal policies. Financial Analysis: Assist with trial balance reviews and develop detailed variance analyses and commentary. Transaction Accounting: Partner with Financial Reporting and business teams to evaluate and ensure proper accounting treatment for new business transactions. Workday System Ownership: Serve as the functional accounting lead for Workday, driving customization decisions, testing, and implementation of new feature releases. Process Optimization & AI Integration: Leverage modern technology (including Google Gemini) to automate accounting workflows, improve operational efficiency, and modernize ways of working. Strategic Initiatives: Lead and contribute to high-impact, cross-functional projects, including Workday Design Reviews. Compliance & Tax Review: Oversee financial ratio calculations for regulatory compliance and review GST/HST tax filings. Team Leadership: Mentor and develop direct reports by setting aligned, challenging goals, delivering timely feedback, and leading ongoing training for the broader team. Required Experience, Skills & Qualifications Education & Credentials: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting; active CPA designation (or equivalent) required. Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including direct leadership or mentorship exposure. Technical Accounting: Deep working knowledge of US GAAP with a proven ability to research and apply accounting principles to complex, non-standard transactions. Systems Expertise: Hands-on experience with enterprise ERP systems (Workday preferred; SAP or Oracle highly regarded). Tech-Forward Mindset: Demonstrated ability to learn and adopt emerging technologies-including AI and automation tools-to streamline operations. Change Management & Communication: Proven success navigating process improvements and business change, backed by strong written and verbal communication skills.
