Director of Accounting

Director of Property & Project Accounting | Hybrid | $150,000 to $200,000 + Bonus We're partnering with a real estate organization seeking a Director of Property & Project Accounting to lead a high-performing accounting team supporting a portfolio of commercial real estate assets and development projects. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for overseeing property accounting, project accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and process improvements while partnering closely with development, asset management, finance, and executive leadership. Responsibilities Lead and develop the Property and Project Accounting teams. Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for a multi-entity real estate portfolio. Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP. Manage accounting for development and construction projects, including capitalization, project costs, and fixed assets. Review property financial statements, account reconciliations, budgets, and variance analyses. Partner with Development, Asset Management, and Operations to provide financial insight throughout the project lifecycle. Strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and scalable processes. Coordinate external audits, tax support, lender reporting, and compliance requirements. Drive systems improvements and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency. Mentor and develop accounting staff while building a collaborative, high-performing team. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred. 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with significant exposure to commercial real estate. Strong background in both property accounting and project/construction accounting. Prior leadership experience managing and developing accounting teams. Thorough understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and month-end close. Experience working within multi-entity environments. Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
