Registered Nurse - Operating Room Circulator

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Operating Room team as a Circulator in Sitka, Alaska. This role involves providing comprehensive professional nursing care to patients across the lifespan within the perioperative setting, ensuring a safe and efficient surgical environment.

The Operating Room Circulator RN is responsible for coordinating all aspects of perioperative workflow outside the sterile field. This includes preparing patients for surgery, verifying critical documentation, ensuring equipment readiness, completing essential safety checklists, and facilitating seamless communication among the entire surgical team. The role demands maintaining situational awareness, anticipating needs, and meticulously documenting intraoperative events.

As a patient advocate, you will collaborate closely with providers and interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, culturally sensitive, and patient-centered services, ultimately promoting optimal patient outcomes and a positive patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care for surgical patients.
• Coordinate perioperative workflow outside the sterile field, including patient preparation, documentation verification, and equipment readiness.
• Complete safety checklists and facilitate effective communication among the surgical team.
• Serve as the patient’s advocate, maintaining situational awareness and anticipating needs during surgical procedures.
• Support sterile staff and accurately document key intraoperative events.
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately according to provider orders and organizational policy.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions or escalation of care.
• Provide patient and family education related to perioperative care, medications, and discharge needs.
• Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely in the electronic health record.
• Practice within the nursing scope of practice and adhere to regulatory, safety, and infection prevention requirements.
• Participate in quality and performance improvement activities.
• Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, flexibility, and teamwork within the surgical department.
• Provide appropriate guidance and delegation to ancillary staff.
• Float to other departments or assignments as needed to support patient care needs.

Required Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association.
