Perioperative Registered Nurse (OR, PACU, Pre-Op)

Job Summary

Join a dedicated healthcare team in Sitka, Alaska, serving the health interests of Southeast Alaska residents. This role involves providing comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care across the lifespan within a dynamic perioperative setting, encompassing Operating Room (OR), Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and Pre-Operative areas.

As a Perioperative Registered Nurse, you will be integral to coordinating patient care from pre-operative assessment through intraoperative support as a circulator, and post-operative recovery. This includes preparing patients, verifying documentation, ensuring equipment readiness, maintaining a safe and efficient surgical environment, advocating for patient safety, and facilitating seamless communication among the surgical team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care for perioperative patients.
• Coordinate perioperative workflow outside the sterile field, including patient preparation, documentation verification, and ensuring equipment readiness.
• Serve as a circulator nurse, maintaining situational awareness, anticipating needs, supporting sterile staff, and documenting key intraoperative events.
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately according to provider orders and policy.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions or escalation of care.
• Provide patient and family education related to care, medications, and discharge needs.
• Collaborate effectively with providers and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care and facilitate continuity of services.
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely in the electronic health record.
• Exercise independent nursing judgment and critical thinking in determining appropriate nursing actions, interventions, and priorities.
• Adhere to regulatory, safety, and infection prevention requirements within the nursing scope of practice.
• Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, flexibility, and teamwork, including appropriate delegation to ancillary staff.
• Float to other departments or assignments as needed to support patient care.

Required Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program.
