Staff Accountant

Staff Accountant (Temp-to-Hire)
Location: Newark, NJ (5 days/week onsite)

Pay Rate: $33-35/hour

Employment Type: Temp-to-Hire


A well-established nonprofit organization serving the Newark community is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional looking to gain hands-on experience in a mission-driven environment.


Responsibilities:

• Assist with month-end and year-end close activities
• Prepare and post journal entries
• Perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
• Maintain general ledger accuracy and support financial reporting
• Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
• Support audit preparation and provide requested documentation
• Track and analyze financial transactions to ensure compliance with accounting policies
• Assist with budget monitoring and variance analysis
• Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
• Support special projects and other accounting duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
• 1-2 years of accounting experience
• Understanding of basic accounting principles and GAAP
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
• Experience with Sage MIP preferred, but not required
• Nonprofit accounting experience preferred, but not required
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

• the individual's skill sets, experience and training;
