SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST

Responsibilities You will determine the nature of the adverse exposure, estimate its intensity and duration, and establish parameters. You will review and examine organizational safety program management and support, industrial work operations and processes to identify high hazards (e.g. explosives, hazardous materials. etc.). You will serve as a lead trainer by scheduling classes, preparing syllabuses and teaching outlines for subordinate safety and occupational health specialists. You will provide technical safety program management oversight for mandated programs, under the direction of the safety supervisor. You will assist in designated Command investigations, prepare limited distribution and confidential mishap messages, reports, and endorsements regarding mishaps. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Managing safety of occupational health program elements, and developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management. Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled. Combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent. A transcript must be submitted with your application if qualifying using education.
