The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) is dedicated to transforming young lives, creating safer communities, and fostering equitable systems. We are seeking passionate individuals for the role of DJS Residential Group Life Manager II, to make a meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS. A DJS Residential Group Life Manager II is the second of two levels of managerial work providing supervision and guidance to youth residing in a facility operated by the Department of Juvenile Services. Employees in this classification oversee all services of a facility, except administration, such as direct care, intake and electronic reporting. Employees may function as the Assistant Director of the facility and may supervise DJS Residential Group Life Manager I positions. Employees receive managerial supervision from a DJS Assistant Superintendent Residential Facility, designated administrator or higher‑level manager. Employees may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays and may be called upon 24‑hour basis based on staffing needs. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Five years of experience providing supervision and guidance to youth in a juvenile facility or juvenile services community program for at‑risk youth. Optional substitutions for experience can be made with an Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice or social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university (or 60 credit hours with 15 in relevant fields) for one year of the required experience, a Bachelor’s degree for two years, or U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non‑commissioned officer in Correctional Officer classifications for year‑for‑year basis. Desired or Preferred Qualifications Experience supervising employees who work in a secure juvenile setting is preferred.LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Must complete and pass the Entrance Level Correctional Training Course for DJS staff within 365 days of initial appointment and maintain the certificate. Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license if required for duties involving motor vehicles. May be required to complete a Board approved medication technician training program and possess a valid Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON) certification as a Medication Technician if assigned to DJS Youth Centers. Special Requirements U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status. Minimum age 21 years. Background check including fingerprinting and drug testing. Oral interview. Physical and psychological examinations. Substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09. Benefits State of Maryland benefits.
