Property Accountant

Job Description

A local management company is seeking an Accountant who will be responsible for the full-cycle accounting of an assigned portfolio of properties. You will work Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Job Responsibilities:

• Perform full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of residential and/or commercial properties
• Prepare monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and variance analyses, record and review journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries, and reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts
• Oversight of inter-company transactions, reconciliations, and billings by the accounts payable position
• Review and approve accounts payable coding and payments to ensure proper expense allocation and prepare and record monthly management fees and accounting fees
• Coordinate with the appropriate property management leads to post and reconcile rent rolls, tenant billings, and other receivables, and handle property deposits that come in remotely or are insurance related.
• Ensure RealPage, or other property management software, is accurately utilized to streamline invoicing, payments, and financial reporting
• Assist with budget preparation, forecasting, and variance reporting for assigned properties and support property managers and senior leadership with financial reports and ad hoc analysis
• Assist with annual audits, tax return support, and compliance reporting and monitor and enforce internal controls and accounting policies across the portfolio
• Monitor accounts payable plans with vendors and ensure timely payments on those plans
• Assist in the development of the annual budget of the company, monitor the budget, provide analytical support, and report for special projects to ownership and senior management upon request
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Job Requirements

Job Qualifications:

• Must have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• Must have at least 3 years' work experience in property or real estate accounting; multi-entity experience strongly preferred
• Experience preparing financials for external audits or tax reporting is a plus
• Must have a strong understanding of GAAP and real estate financial reporting standards
• Proficiency with property management/accounting software such as RealPage and QuickBooks and advanced Microsoft Excel skills is needed
• Must have the ability to read and interpret accounting reports, write reports, and business correspondence
• Must have excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills, while paying a high attention to detail
• Must have the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times
