Travel Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN) – 13-Week Contract in Peoria, Illinois

Travel Nursing Job Details

• Estimated Weekly Pay: $2,130-$2,250
• Location: Peoria, Illinois
• Healthcare Setting: Acute-care surgical and medical-surgical unit
• Start Date: November 30, 2026
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks, through March 1, 2027
• Schedule: 36 hours per week; three 12-hour night shifts
• Shift: 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, including Saturday and Sunday
• Holiday Requirement: Rotating holiday coverage approximately every other holiday
• Call: No call or standby requirement
• Electronic Medical Record: EPIC
• Orientation: Two precepted shifts plus one 12-hour EPIC, professional, and unit orientation shift

Med/Surg Travel Nurse Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois, or confirmation that the Illinois licensing process has been initiated
• At least 1 year of recent medical-surgical or acute-care nursing experience
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
• Experience caring for post-operative, trauma, and medical-surgical patients
• Strong critical-thinking, communication, teamwork, and patient-care skills
• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced acute-care environment and float to another unit with comparable experience when needed
• Ability to provide required pre-employment documentation and complete a negative drug screen

Med/Surg Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for post-operative surgical, trauma, medical overflow, and other acute-care patients
• Manage patient assignments while maintaining safe, organized, and evidence-based nursing care
• Perform dressing changes, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drain care, NG tube care, central-line care, and TPN management
• Monitor patients receiving heparin and recognize changes in patient condition that require intervention or escalation
• Complete patient assessments, administer medications, evaluate outcomes, and communicate changes to the interdisciplinary care team
• Collaborate with patient care technicians who assist with vital signs, blood glucose checks, activities of daily living, turning, and ambulation
• Care for patients using CPAP and high-flow oxygen in collaboration with respiratory therapy; manage inhalers as appropriate
• Use telemetry information and collaborate with monitor technicians to support safe patient care
• Float to units with similar patient populations and skill requirements when assigned
• Promote a respectful, patient-centered environment through clear communication and compassionate bedside care
