Sheriff's Helicopter/Airplane Mechanic

Job Summary Sheriff's Helicopter/Airplane Mechanics play a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of the aircraft operated by the Sheriff's Office. These skilled professionals maintain and repair airframes, engines, and essential components, keeping helicopters mission‑ready. Qualifications Possession of a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Power Plant License. Completion of FAA‑recognized training or education in helicopter and aircraft maintenance. Valid California Class C driver’s license. At least one (1) year of paid experience repairing and maintaining helicopters for an agency or organization. Required Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations FAA Airframe and Power Plant License (maintained throughout employment). California Class C driver’s license (maintained throughout employment; use of personal vehicle may be required). Working Conditions Incumbents will work in a climate‑controlled repair hangar at Gillespie Field, El Cajon, with occasional work during evenings and weekends for emergency repairs. Work may also take place outdoors at off‑site locations and in remote areas, exposing employees to varying weather conditions and hazardous liquids such as fuel, gasoline, or lubricants. Protective clothing or equipment may be required. Condition of Employment Prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre‑employment medical screening before beginning employment.
