We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support key accounting and reporting activities for a Contract position based in Tampa, Florida. This role will focus on reconciliations, financial analysis, journal entry preparation, and both GAAP and statutory reporting within an insurance environment. The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail, clear communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with accounting, operations, and technical teams to resolve discrepancies and maintain accurate financial records.
Responsibilities:
- Reconcile MGA program accounting: Review and reconcile accounting activity received from Managing General Agents (MGAs) to ensure transactions are accurate and complete.
- Manage monthly accounting activity: During the 1st–10th of each month, load program accounting data into the system and perform detailed reconciliations.
- Research and resolve discrepancies: Investigate data issues or reconciliation differences and work with IT and Operations to identify and correct problems.
- Record accounting adjustments: Prepare and post expense adjustments and journal entries as needed to ensure the financial records are accurate.
- Support insurance accounting: Work with accounting information related to programs where claims are administered by third-party administrators (TPAs).
- Financial reporting: Support both GAAP and statutory (STAT) accounting and reporting requirements.
- Analyze accounting data: Review financial information, identify variances or unusual activity, and determine the appropriate resolution.
- Collaborate across teams: Communicate with Accounting, IT, Operations, and other business partners to resolve issues and keep the monthly accounting process on track.
• At least 5 years of accounting experience, including senior-level responsibilities.
• Strong background in account reconciliation, bank reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and adjusting journal entries.
• Experience supporting month-end close and preparing accurate financial reports.
• Working knowledge of US GAAP and statutory accounting principles, preferably within the insurance industry.
• Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze data and identify exceptions efficiently.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills in a collaborative work environment.
