Payroll Accountant

Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a part-time Nonprofit Accountant for a mission-driven nonprofit organization supporting impactful programs. This is a remote opportunity for an organization based in San Francisco, CA (preference for candidates in California working on Pacific Time). POSITION OVERVIEW Are you an experienced accountant looking for your next contract opportunity? This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced nonprofit environment and enjoys a blend of payroll and accounting responsibilities. In this position, you will support full-cycle accounting operations, payroll processing, and financial reporting. PERKS Competitive hourly pay of $35–$42/hour, depending on experience Opportunity to gain hands-on experience with payroll, audits, and financial reporting Potential for assignment extension based on performance and organizational needs Collaborative, mission-driven team environment Employer-provided equipment and part-time schedule (20 hours/week) RESPONSIBILITIES Process payroll and support payroll-related functions using Paycom Perform general ledger accounting, including journal entries and account reconciliations Assist with month-end close, financial reporting, and audit preparation Maintain accuracy of financial data and ensure compliance with internal controls Support accounting operations using systems such as QuickBooks and Ramp Collaborate with the team on ongoing accounting initiatives QUALIFICATIONS Experience in payroll processing and accounting operations Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and reconciliations Proficiency with accounting systems such as Paycom and QuickBooks High attention to detail with strong organizational and time management skills Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS This temporary opportunity offers a competitive hourly rate of $35–$42/hour, depending on experience, with a part-time schedule of 20 hours per week. The assignment is anticipated to last approximately 3 months, with potential for extension. This role provides valuable exposure to payroll, accounting operations, and audit support within a respected nonprofit organization.
