Accountant

Are you an accounting professional who enjoys working with financial data, analyzing results, and digging into the details? We are seeking an Cost Accountant to join a healthcare organization in Newport News with the potential to transition into a permanent position. This role is well suited for someone with hands-on accounting experience who has worked with financial statements, budgeting, financial analysis, and cost or variance analysis . The ideal candidate enjoys working directly with the numbers and detailed financial information rather than focusing primarily on strategic, executive, or people-management responsibilities. What You'll Do: Prepare, maintain, and analyze budgets and financial information. Assist with the preparation and analysis of financial statements. Perform financial and cost analysis to identify trends, variances, and areas requiring further review. Analyze financial data and provide accurate, detailed information to support business decisions. Perform detailed accounting functions and maintain accurate financial records. Research and investigate variances, discrepancies, and unusual financial activity. Work with financial datasets and Excel to organize, analyze, and interpret information. Utilize formulas, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and other Excel functions to analyze financial information. Assist with reporting, reconciliations, and other accounting and financial projects. Collaborate with internal teams to gather financial information and resolve discrepancies. Support ongoing budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes. What We're Looking For: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required , OR a Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Business with a concentration in Accounting and approximately 21 accounting credit hours . Transcripts are required. Minimum of 1 year of hands-on accounting experience involving analysis, budgeting, and financial statements . Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial processes. Hands-on experience with budget preparation/maintenance, financial analysis, financial statements, and cost/variance analysis . Strong attention to detail and the ability to work accurately with financial information. Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, formulas, and absolute/relative references . Ability to independently work with large or complex financial datasets. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work directly in the details and manage multiple priorities. Healthcare accounting or finance experience is preferred but not required . What This Role Offers: Pay of up to $30 per hour . Contract-to-hire structure with the intention of transitioning into permanent employment. Full-time position based in Newport News, Virginia . 100% onsite work environment.
