Burr Ridge Middle School Secretary

Location: Burr Ridge Middle School Supervisor: Superintendent and Building Principal

Qualifications:

  • State of Illinois fingerprinting and background check in compliance with state code and district policy requirements.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or training in office administration or related fields preferred.
  • One to three years of secretarial or clerical experience preferred, preferably within a public school or special education setting.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, including Google Docs, Sheets, Forms, Drive, and Gmail.
  • Working knowledge of basic office procedures and operation of standard office equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, parents, administrators, and community members.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced office environment.
  • Proof of a negative TB test is required.
  • Completion of the online application and fingerprinting through the Regional Office of Education is required.
  • Position Overview

    The BRMS Secretary/Receptionist supports the efficient daily operation of Burr Ridge Middle School by providing clerical, organizational, and customer service support to the principal. This position serves as the primary point of contact for visitors, staff, families, and community members while maintaining a professional, organized, and welcoming office environment. The BRMS Secretary/Receptionist plays an essential role in supporting school operations, communications, attendance tracking, scheduling, and general administrative functions, ensuring effective services for students, staff, and the school community.

    Performance Responsibilities

    The criteria listed below describe the essential functions of the position. The exclusion of specific responsibilities does not preclude the assignment of related duties.

    • Reception & Office Operations:
      • Serves visitors by greeting and welcoming students, staff, families, and community members to the district office.
      • Answers, screens, and forwards incoming calls while providing general information and assistance as appropriate.
      • Receives, sorts, and distributes mail, packages, and deliveries.
      • Maintains district office security procedures and visitor protocols.
      • Maintains a safe, organized, and professional reception area.
      • Operates and maintains standard office equipment and supplies.
    • Administrative & Clerical Support:
      • Provides clerical and administrative support to the Principal.
      • Updates calendars, schedules meetings, and coordinates appointments as assigned.
      • Prepares correspondence, reports, forms, and documents.
      • Accurately files and maintains school records and documentation.
      • Monitors and maintains employee attendance records, including sick, personal, and vacation days.
      • Supports general office operations and provides assistance to the staff as needed.
    • Professional Responsibilities:
      • Maintains confidentiality regarding students, staff, personnel matters, and district operations.
      • Demonstrates professionalism, reliability, punctuality, and a positive attitude in all interactions.
      • Maintains professional relationships with staff, parents, and community members.
      • Functions as a collaborative member of the support staff team.
      • Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to assist with school needs and special projects.
      • Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or district administrators.

    Working Conditions:

    • Position located at the Burr Ridge Middle School.
    • Work year includes the regular school year plus additional days before and after the school year as assigned.
    • Typical work hours: 7:30 a.m. 4:00 p.m.
    • Regular office environment with frequent interaction with staff, students, families, and community members.

    Salary and Benefits:

    • Starting Salary commensurate with experience and coursework.
    • District offers a comprehensive benefits package in accordance with Board policy and applicable employment agreements.

    Evaluation:

    • Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent and/or Building Principal in accordance with district evaluation procedures and Board policy.
