Location: Alexandria, VA 22302

Employment Type: Part-time, 30 hours guaranteed/week

Schedule: Monday - Friday 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with flexibility to start earlier as needed. Some flexibility for occasional evening or overnight needs during the family's travel periods as needed.

Compensation: $30-$35 per hour based on experience

Start Date: ASAP

About Our Family

We are a warm, busy, and active family looking for someone who can become a trusted and valued part of our everyday life. Our household includes two high school students and a college student who visits from time to time. Each day brings its own rhythm and responsibilities, from coordinating sports schedules and carpools to preparing meals, running errands, managing household projects, and keeping up with the many details that help a busy home function well. Our friendly yellow lab adds to the energy and warmth of the household.

With a full-time work schedule outside the home, we are looking for someone who can provide a steady, capable, and caring presence during the afternoons and evenings. This is often the busiest part of the day, when schedules overlap and several priorities may need attention at once. The children are becoming increasingly independent and are capable of managing many responsibilities on their own, but they still benefit from encouragement, organization, and gentle accountability, to help them stay on track.

We value someone who is proactive, thoughtful, organized, and comfortable taking ownership. The right person will notice what needs to be done, think ahead, communicate clearly, and follow through reliably. Who You Are / What We're Looking For

You are an experienced household manager who takes genuine pride in caring for a home and helping everything run smoothly. You naturally notice what’s running low, what’s out of place, what maintenance needs attention, and what the week ahead may require, then take the initiative to handle it. You’re highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing many moving pieces at once. From maintaining household systems and inventory to coordinating errands, vendors, repairs, and family logistics, you enjoy staying informed, thinking ahead, and making life easier for the family.

You have an operations-minded approach and enjoy creating practical systems that keep the household organized and efficient. You’re comfortable taking responsibility for the day-to-day management of the home, including meal planning and preparation, grocery and supply management, home organization, laundry and linens, calendar coordination, vehicle upkeep, and special projects. You use good judgment, know how to prioritize, and can move comfortably between routine responsibilities and unexpected needs while keeping a calm, capable presence.

You also bring warmth, patience, and grounded energy to the family. You’re comfortable around teenagers and can build genuine rapport while offering structure, encouragement, and accountability when needed. You communicate clearly and proactively, whether through a quick text or a direct phone call when something would be better discussed. Most importantly, you see yourself as a true partner to the family: someone who anticipates needs, solves problems, follows through, and helps reduce the household’s mental load. You are someone the family can trust to keep the home organized, the logistics moving, and the details thoughtfully handled.

Key Responsibilities

Family Support

• Afternoon school pickup and neighborhood carpool, including adapting to seasonal sports schedules
• Provide light supervision, helping teens stay on task and focused after school while encouraging independence, responsibility, and good decision-making
• Assist with errand support (school supplies, birthday gifts, etc.)

Household Organization & Maintenance

• Create and maintain household organization systems, with special focus given to the kitchen
• Daily household resets, including light tidying and making beds
• Prep home for weekly cleaners
• Manage seasonal clothing swaps and holiday decorating
• Assist with event/holiday/guest prep as needed (including gift wrapping)

Meal Planning & Prep

• Full meal planning and preparation for dinner 3-4 times per week
• Grocery shopping
• Maintaining a well-stocked kitchen without over-purchasing or duplicating items
• Follow dietary needs and preferences: healthy, family friendly meals
• Kitchen clean-up and maintenance

Laundry & Linen Care

• Wash, fold, and organize household laundry
• Linen rotation and regular towel refreshing
• Ironing and steaming as needed
• Maintain tidy land well stocked laundry areas

Inventory & Errands

• Manage household supply lists and restocking (pantry, fridge, cleaning supplies, household essentials)
• Handle returns, dry cleaning drop-off and pickup, and occasional gift shopping
• Manage household orders and subscriptions (Amazon/Costco/Target)
• Package handling and management, including breakdown of boxes

Pet Care

• Dog feeding and walks on days the dog is home (3 days per week)
• Daycare pickup twice per week (approximately 10 minutes away)
• Assist with vet and grooming scheduling
• Track monthly heartworm medication via Skylight
• Maintain pet supplies

Administrative & Personal Assistant Support

• Calendar management via Skylight, including inputting seasonal sports schedules and school events
• Assist with event and appointment coordination
• Mail sorting on a daily basis

Deep Cleaning & Special Projects

• Periodic deep cleans: clean out fridge, oven, baseboards
• Refresh and organize drop zones including garage, mudroom, and entry areas
• Clean humidifiers and air purifiers as needed
• Lead major organizational projects: basement (top priority), home office, and sitting room

Vehicle Management

• Coordinate family vehicle maintenance and schedule repairs as needed
• Keep vehicles organized, tidy, and fueled
• Track registration and insurance renewals

Vendor & Property Oversight

• Be present for repair and service appointments
• Oversee and manage existing service contracts (cleaners, contractors, landscapers)
• Research and coordinate repairs and quotes
• Seasonal property and outdoor space maintenance as needed
