Job Details A ST (often called a scrub tech) works as part of a surgical team in operating rooms as well as in the labor and delivery unit. Surg techs provide vital support to a surgeon such as preparing for surgery, passing instruments, providing needed supplies such as sponges, receiving and containing tissue, and much more. Surg techs generally work in a hospital and/or outpatient clinic setting. Education and Requirements High school education is required to obtain a job as an ST. Optional certification to become a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is available. To become a CST, candidates must complete an exam through the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NBSTSA). OB/GYN experience, exposure to cystoscopy procedures and cerclages is a plus. Night availability required.
