Psychologist - Sport Psychologist (Open Rank/Clinical-Track Faculty) Position Overview At OSUWMC, we are committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care across the lifespan. The mission of the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health is to improve, advance, and innovate behavioral healthcare and foster resilience in our patients and our communities. Our emphasis across conditions is on delivery and development of empirically supported treatments and approaches. We seek a sport psychologist to join our Sport Psychology and Wellness Services (SPAWS), serving OSU varsity student athletes. This individual will serve as Assistant Director within SPAWS, providing individual assessment and counseling services, while facilitating, executing, and overseeing the day-to-day services. The Assistant Director reports to its Director. Responsibilities include diagnosing and treating patients, providing education, supervision, collaborating with staff, and delivering presentations to the Ohio State athletics community. Administrative responsibilities include serving as a representative on sports medicine/sports performance committees, oversight of clinical service delivery, and supervision of trainees and/or administrative staff. The Assistant Director must be competent in evidence-based clinical skills as well as organizational leadership skills. The Assistant Director is expected to practice within the established Medical Center and standards of practice and adhere to key results areas of the Medical Center. The successful candidate is expected to direct and/or provide care in a manner consistent with the privileges granted them by the governing body of University Hospitals and as approved by the University Board of Trustees. Department/Division Overview The successful candidates will join a 70+-member Section of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health. Our Section offers robust training opportunities, including externship experiences, psychology pre‑doctoral internship, and several fellowship programs. We offer a collaborative environment and an engaged Psychology faculty. To learn about our department, go to Duties and Responsibilities Athletic counseling (~50% of time): provides psychotherapeutic interventions to assist student‑athlete to cope with mental health disorders, relationship problems, performance issues, and related environmental, educational, and vocational concerns; identifies present and potential student‑athlete psychosocial problems and implements plans for problem resolution; maintains documentation for medical records; consults with the care team and other medical specialists to enhance student‑athlete outcomes. Wellness/prevention services (~25%): visits practices, competitions, training rooms, and athletic facilities regularly; delivers performance consultation to teams; delivers psychoeducational programming to student‑athletes; participates in interdisciplinary student‑athlete care conferences and team meetings; participates in staff meetings, in‑services, continuing education programs, research activities, CQI and performance improvement activities; participates in monthly peer supervision. Administrative/leadership (~25%): develops and monitors implementation of clinical services, initiatives, and programming; participates in cross‑collaboration meetings with respective stakeholders; supervises interns and administrative staff based on staffing needs; leads staff meetings as needed. Other duties: representing the program or Department by participating in committees, conferences, and representing OSU at professional meetings and community speaking engagements; practice within the established Medical Center standards of practice (policies, procedures, protocols); adhere to key results areas of the Medical Center. Requires thorough knowledge of DSM‑5 and mental health diagnoses within ICD‑10. Requirements Doctoral Degree in Psychology or allied discipline. Licensed or license‑eligible in the state of Ohio. Applicants must have graduated from an APA‑ or CPA‑accredited clinical or counseling psychology doctoral program with an accredited clinical internship and be licensed in Ohio by the time of appointment. Preference will be given to candidates who have at least three years of clinical work and administrative experience within collegiate athletics. Must possess competent technical clinical skills and the cognitive and interpersonal skills required to participate in our academic community and to serve patients receiving the services described.
