Supervisory Physician (Medical Evaluation Board) - GP - Fort Cavazos, TX

Fort Cavazos is situated in the picturesque 'hill and lake' region of Central Texas, nestled between Killeen and Copperas Cove. It is approximately 60 miles north of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio.

Established in 1942, this military base spans 340 square miles and serves as the Army's premier installation for training and deploying heavy forces.

Covering 214,968 acres, Fort Cavazos is currently the largest active-duty armored post in the U.S. Armed Forces and the only installation capable of stationing and training two Armored Divisions.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and technical guidance to the staff at the MEB Outpatient Clinic.
• Conduct thorough reviews of medical records, interpret diagnostic tests and x-rays, and utilize sound clinical judgment to arrange for additional medical specialty consultations.
• Compose detailed narrative summaries incorporating consultant insights and opinions as necessary.
• Evaluate community and patient population needs, mission requirements, and available resources to plan and deliver a comprehensive range of outpatient and inpatient services.
• Collaborate with other physicians (such as family practitioners and general psychiatrists) to assess and reconcile conflicting medical evidence in challenging and complex cases.

PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.

Conditions of Employment

• Appointment may require a suitability or fitness determination based on a completed background investigation.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is mandatory.
• Selected candidates may need to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or provide a recognized exemption.
• This role is classified as a Testing Designated Position, subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Candidates will need to consent to random drug urinalysis.
• A pre-placement medical examination may be necessary.
• Immunization screening may be required, including Hepatitis B vaccination for all positions involving direct patient contact. Proof of other immunizations may also be requested based on the specific role.
• Maintaining current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association may be required. Advanced certifications (e.g., ALS) do not replace BLS.
• A valid stateside driver's license may be necessary.
• Candidates must meet credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain relevant clinical privileges.
• This position may necessitate tuberculosis testing.
• Additional requirements may be communicated during the hiring process as positions become available.

Qualifications

U.S. Citizenship is required.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Physician (Medical Evaluation Board):

• Degree: A Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from an accredited institution in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by recognized bodies such as the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association or the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. For foreign medical degrees, equivalency to U.S. accredited schools must be demonstrated through permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
• Licensure: Candidates must hold a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
• Graduate Training: After obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, candidates must have at least one year of supervised clinical experience, such as a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an accredited hospital or institution.

In addition to the basic requirements, candidates must also meet the following qualifications:

• Experience/Training: A minimum of five years of graduate training in the relevant specialty or equivalent experience and training is required.

If selected for a Physician position:

Salary information will not be provided at the time of the initial job offer. The salary determination process begins after the job offer is accepted, involving the Activity Compensation Panel to establish base pay and market pay. This will be communicated once approved.

Physician salaries are based on a tier scale determined by specialty, grade, and location. This announcement may be utilized to fill positions at any of the following tiers:

• Tier 1: $121,020 - $300,000
• Tier 2: $145,000 - $320,000
• Tier 3: $165,000 - $336,000
