Job Summary

The HR Generalist supports all aspects of human resources operations within a manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, performance management, training coordination, and maintaining HR records. The HR Generalist partners with supervisors and employees to foster a safe, productive, and positive workplace while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Staffing

  • Coordinate the full-cycle recruitment process for hourly and salaried positions.
  • Post job openings, screen applicants, schedule interviews, and assist with hiring decisions.
  • Conduct new hire orientation and onboarding.
  • Coordinate pre-employment screenings, background checks, and employment documentation.

Employee Relations

  • Serve as a point of contact for employee questions and HR-related concerns.
  • Assist managers with employee performance, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.
  • Promote employee engagement and a positive workplace culture.
  • Support employee recognition and retention initiatives.

HR Administration

  • Maintain accurate employee personnel files and HRIS records.
  • Process employee status changes, promotions, transfers, and terminations.
  • Assist with payroll-related activities and timekeeping as needed.
  • Administer benefits enrollment and answer employee benefit questions.

Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Maintain I-9 documentation, EEO records, and other required employment records.
  • Assist with OSHA reporting, workers' compensation claims, and return-to-work programs.
  • Support audits and maintain HR documentation in accordance with company policies.

Performance Management & Training

  • Coordinate performance review processes.
  • Assist with employee development and training programs.
  • Track required certifications and compliance training.
  • Support leadership with succession planning and workforce development initiatives.

Safety & Manufacturing Support

  • Partner with production leadership to promote workplace safety.
  • Participate in safety meetings and HR involvement in incident investigations.
  • Support attendance management and workforce scheduling initiatives.
  • Help ensure compliance with company safety policies and manufacturing procedures.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Prepare HR reports and workforce metrics.
  • Assist with policy development and updates.
  • Participate in special HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience

  • 2–5 years of Human Resources experience, preferably in a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment.
  • Experience supporting hourly and shift-based workforces is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Experience with HRIS and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with payroll systems and timekeeping software is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR) preferred.
  • Experience with OSHA regulations and workers' compensation administration.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement environments is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move throughout office and manufacturing facilities.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk on the production floor as needed.
  • May require use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when entering production areas.

Work Environment

  • Combination of office and manufacturing floor.
  • Exposure to noise, machinery, temperature variations, and production activities while following all required safety procedures.
  • Standard business hours with occasional flexibility to support multiple shifts or special projects.
