Training Specialist-Law Enforcement

Under general direction, plan, develop, and provide coordination and support for specialized training classes related to law enforcement, criminal justice, homeland security, terrorism prevention and mitigation, and other related disciplines. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (include, but not limited to)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated on this description. Plan, develop, and coordinate specialized training offerings related to criminal justice, law enforcement, homeland security, terrorism prevention and mitigation, and other related disciplines including the development of training programs and courses; assign appropriate instructional staff (as necessary); acquire, coordinate, and manage guest speakers/lecturers; coordinate location logistics; secure equipment and materials; and develop partnerships with local, state, and federal agencies. Monitor enrollments, open new sections, and cancel course sections in consultation with the Associate Dean of Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement. Act as a work leader, assigning and reviewing work of assigned faculty and guest speakers/lecturers to ensure effective operations, consistent customer service, and quality instruction. Identify alternative sources of funding (including contracts and grants) for specialized training offerings. Prepare grant proposals and other related documentation. Monitor projects as assigned. Maintain required records and documentation. Prepare and submit reports as required. Coordinate, develop, facilitate and participate in marketing, recruitment, recognition and other efforts, initiatives, and events. Meet with stakeholders to expand, maintain, and foster professional networks while also marketing specialized training offerings and garnering feedback on emerging training topics and needs. Minimum QualificationsREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of public safety programs including the disciplines of criminal justice, law enforcement, homeland security, terrorism prevention and mitigation, emergency management, and emergency response and mitigation. Knowledge of supervisory principles, ability to supervise, and ability to work in a team- based environment. Demonstrated familiarity and experience in quality and customer service principles. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent critical thinking, leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent organizational and follow-up skills with attention to detail, and the ability to plan and effectively handle multiple tasks. Ability to negotiate and write both grant and contract proposals. Ability to use a wide range of information technology such as database systems, word processing, e-mail, presentation software, and the internet. Educational and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Training and Development or a related field. Two (2) years of full-time experience in the law enforcement field. Two (2) years of teaching experience in a post-secondary setting preferred. Supplemental Information Training Specialist-Law Enforcement position supports the Law Enforcement Department and is available to start on May 18, 2026. This position is a 40 hours per/week position. Typical hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All applicants must submit a completed application along with a current resume and cover letter.
