Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Make a meaningful difference in the lives of elementary students by providing specialized education and support in a self-contained autism classroom. This contract role centers on creating an inclusive and structured environment that nurtures students’ academic, social, and life skills.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to diverse student needs.
• Deliver direct instruction using evidence-based strategies tailored for Autism Spectrum Disorder.
• Implement and monitor positive behavior supports (PBIS) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
• Collaborate closely with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and other specialists.
• Supervise and direct paraprofessionals working in the classroom.
• Collect, analyze, and maintain compliance documentation and progress data.
• Foster student growth in communication, social interaction, self-regulation, and daily living skills.
• Maintain a safe, engaging, and structured classroom environment.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

• Active Virginia Special Education Teaching License, or eligibility to obtain one.
• Experience developing and implementing IEPs for students with disabilities.
• Proficient knowledge of special education compliance, documentation, and regulatory requirements.
• Strong classroom management and behavior support skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and families.

Preferred Attributes:

• Previous experience teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
• Background in self-contained classroom settings.
• Familiarity with ABA principles, structured teaching, visual schedules, social stories, and functional communication systems.
• Experience supporting students with significant cognitive and behavioral needs.
• Crisis prevention and de-escalation training.

This is a full-time, school-based contract position beginning in the 26/27 school year, working with elementary-aged students who require individualized, intensive support in a highly collaborative setting.
