Intervention Specialist Science Secondary Title I -Lake Olympia Middle School

Job Overview The Intervention Specialist Science Secondary Title I will be responsible for providing a student-centered approach to science intervention that effectively works to close the achievement gap in science. The incumbent will provide targeted science intervention and academic supports to small groups of students that exhibit a need for science support based on state and local data. The Intervention Specialist Science Secondary Title 1 will analyze data, plan and deliver targeted intervention to student groups, and progress monitor academic growth as a result of the intervention provided to students. The incumbent will collaborate with teachers and campus administrators to develop a strong instructional intervention system to support student progress in science. Position Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction & Intervention Design and deliver targeted, research-based science instruction for designated students using adopted instructional resources and materials Collaborate with campus administrators, teachers, and the Teaching and Learning Division to plan and deliver targeted student interventions aligned with the District’s Response to Intervention plan and Campus Improvement Plans Utilize best practices for intervention, including small-group instruction using the pull-out and push-in models, co-teaching, and the use of hands‑on science investigations and technology to build conceptual understanding Collaborate with district and campus administrators and teachers to evaluate student achievement for the purpose of placing students in the appropriate intervention and identifying/delivering support services Coordinate with campus administrators and science teachers to organize science intervention and enrichment activities for students Facilitate the disaggregation of multiple sources of data to make instructional decisions about science instruction Implement instructional strategies that meet the needs of various student groups Attend Interventionist meetings with District leaders for support with District intervention practices and strategies Data Analysis & Progress Monitoring Analyze data using the cycle identified in the Local Assessment Plan from formative, interim, summative, and science screeners to monitor student progress and plan focused student interventions Implement a progress monitoring system for all students within intervention groups aligned with the District Response to Intervention plan for progress monitoring Regularly communicate with campus and district staff and parents regarding student progress Collaborate with district and campus administrators and teachers to evaluate student achievement for the purpose of placing students in the appropriate intervention and identifying/delivering support services Coordinate with campus administrators and teachers to organize science intervention and enrichment activities for students Collaborate with teachers and students to set and track student performance goals Program Support Create and articulate a schedule with administrators of specialist activities for intervention Support the coordination of the administration of the District science screener and the use of corresponding data reports Keep abreast of and research best practices for science instruction, intervention, and enrichment in the assigned grade levels Provide support to teachers on the implementation of science instructional resources including lab materials and technology Meet regularly with campus instructional leaders to communicate program needs and plan support structures Address complaints and resolve problems in a timely manner Support the implementation of the written curriculum and intervention resources with fidelity Facilitate the implementation of the District science screener Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the above essential duties satisfactorily. Bachelor’s degree Master’s degree preferred Valid Teaching Certification Issued by Texas Education Agency appropriate to subject and grade level of assignment Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching in a secondary science classroom Demonstrated knowledge of and training on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), secondary science curriculum, and best practices in science instruction Demonstrated knowledge of secondary science instruction and use of hands‑on investigations to develop conceptual understanding for students Demonstrated evidence of professional growth, including leadership or participation in a wide range of professional learning experiences Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, as well as interpersonal skills that promote collaboration and effective communication with adults Comprehensive knowledge of instructional strategies, role of Professional Learning Communities (PLC), and data for decision‑making, intervention and enrichment, student assessment, and use of instructional technology Strong organizational and classroom management skills Physical Requirements/Working Conditions The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress. Additional Information This position requires travel to various campuses, district meeting sites as well as travel to conferences/meetings in and out of state. This position requires the employee to work evenings and weekends. This position is grant funded through Title I funds.
