Scope :

The Chief Scientific Officer (“CSO”) provides critical scientific direction for IDX, with leading edge research and development programs that enable delivery of novel and competitive molecular cancer diagnostic products/services to the marketplace. The CSO ensures the highest levels of quality, with strict adherence to best research practices and regulatory requirements. S/he works closely with other members of the IDX Team and our strategic partners in addition to leading interdisciplinary teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

• Provide critical scientific direction
• Establish IDX's scientific vision and lead all aspects of the company's scientific strategy and product development
• Provide visible leadership for the company within relevant science and technology communities
• Serve as IDX’s chief scientific expert, keeping the Team apprised of scientific developments that can influence our mission - internally and externally.
• Identify, evaluate and develop strategic collaborations with industry (especially pharma), academia, and government institutions to leverage the Company’s R&D efforts
• Protect and oversee development of intellectual property
• Direct Internal Research & Development
• Develop research agenda and product pipelines for Company based upon market need
• Lead and direct interdisciplinary teams - internal and external - to resolve complex scientific problems on time and within budget
• Ensure rigorous and successful validation of clinical trials for all new assays, products and related services
• Ensure all regulatory approvals and accreditations including compliance with GLPs, GMPs and FDA, if required
• Develop abstracts, papers and presentations for “A” level peer review in support of the company’s R&D and clinical activities
• Develop, implement and meet IDX R&D budget, as well as grant milestones and budget requirements
• Represent Company and serve as Expert Voice at Conferences and Scientific Meetings, as well as, with Customer Audiences
• Serve as chief technical spokesperson in all forms of communication: e.g., conference calls, written communication, emails
• Support sales and business development activities wherever necessary and appropriate

• Strong leadership and administrative skills for managing interdisciplinary teams to deliver projects on time and within budget
• Excellent writing skills
• Ability to engage the scientific community, government agencies, and other stakeholders relative to IDX's science program
• Successful delivery of technical presentations at seminars, conferences and meetings
• Demonstrated success in grant writing
• Demonstrated principal leadership in innovative strategic alliances
• Substantive patent/IP portfolio development for commercial enterprises

Education and/or Experience:

• Nationally recognized scientific leader and credible expert in field of molecular genetics with publications in major peer-reviewed journals and presentations at major conferences
• MD, PhD or MD/PhD with strong emphasis in molecular biology, pathology and/or oncology
• 7+ years in a senior leadership role including prior CSO or Head of R&D with experience in commercial laboratory environment
• Experience in running large clinical trials and/or FDA regulated environment
• Vision and passion for growth and development of cancer molecular diagnostics through companion diagnostics

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

New York State Certificate of Qualification

Medical License (MD candidates)

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Works closely with CMO and Clinical Laboratory Director

It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for prolonged periods of time.
