Description of Work Effective July1,2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. This position is HVAC MechanicI located at the DanRiverPrison Work Farm in Blanch, NC. This facility houses approximately 640 minimum, male offenders. Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, the HVAC MechanicI will perform tasks of installation, operation, preventive maintenance and repair of three facilities’ heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment. May also entail troubleshooting and testing of electrical, digital, and pneumatic controls. Primarily performs preventive maintenance actions as required on HVAC and refrigeration equipment, ice machines, water coolers, water pumps, and air compressors. Instruct lower‑level assistants and offenders in performing technical repairs. Will work with minimum‑custody offenders and have frequent contact with offenders. The individual in this position must be available on a rotating basis for emergency call back. Individual should have some knowledge in the use of a personal computer. Additional duties as assigned. Management Preferences Documented experience in HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) Systems. Documented knowledge in reading blueprints, schematic and wiring diagrams. Salary Range $39,244.00-$68,679.00 Location DanRiverPrison Work Farm in Blanch, NC. The facility sits on a 187.5‑acre site in the north‑central area of Caswell County and houses felon and misdemeanant minimum custody adult male offenders. Work assignments include food service, maintenance, janitorial and other institutional jobs. Other assignments include maintenance work at Caswell Correctional Center and the offender construction program. Work Schedule This is a full‑time position (40hours per week). The selected candidate will work Monday-Friday8am-5pm. Hours may vary at times depending on the business needs of the facility. Minimum Education and Experience High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Qualifications Current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title40, Code of Federal Regulations part82, subpartF.
