Job Title: Senior Business Analyst

Job Location: Austin, Texas

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced  Senior Business Analyst to support business process analysis, requirements elicitation, software development initiatives, and system improvements. The ideal candidate will have strong experience gathering and documenting business and functional requirements, facilitating stakeholder discussions, developing user stories and use cases, and creating wireframes and mockups.

The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, development teams, and project teams throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), while applying business analysis best practices and effectively using requirements and issue-tracking tools.

Essential Functions

1. Requirements Elicitation & Analysis

• Analyze user needs, business processes, pain points, and existing system capabilities to identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.
• Elicit and analyze requirements through stakeholder interviews, Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions, document analysis, surveys, use cases, workflow analysis, and product/solution analysis.
• Identify business needs, functional requirements, system constraints, dependencies, and opportunities for process optimization.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and technical teams to ensure requirements are clearly understood and aligned with business objectives.

2. Requirements Documentation & Visual Deliverables

• Translate information gathered during elicitation sessions into clear and comprehensive business and functional requirements.
• Develop and maintain:
  • Business and functional requirements documents
  • Software Requirements Specifications (SRS)
  • User stories and acceptance criteria
  • Use cases and process flows
  • Wireframes and mockups
  • Requirements traceability documentation
• Follow established templates, standards, and business analysis best practices.
• Ensure requirements are written in clear, concise, consistent, and unambiguous language.

3. Business Analysis Best Practices & Mentorship

• Apply established business analysis methodologies, standards, and best practices throughout project activities.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to business analysts and project team members.
• Share knowledge, techniques, templates, and best practices with peers and colleagues.
• Identify opportunities for professional development and proactively participate in relevant training and knowledge-sharing activities.

4. Requirements Management & Tools

• Effectively use requirements management and issue-tracking tools to manage requirements throughout the SDLC.
• Utilize tools such as  Atlassian Jira and  Modern Requirements to document, track, manage, and communicate requirements.
• Support requirements change control and maintain requirements traceability.
• Monitor and communicate requirements status, dependencies, risks, and changes to project stakeholders.
• Collaborate with project teams throughout the SDLC to ensure requirements remain current and properly managed.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience eliciting requirements through stakeholder interviews and other elicitation techniques and developing well-written system requirements.
• 8+ years of experience working with Software Development Life Cycles (SDLCs).
• 8+ years of experience with business process re-engineering and software process flow improvement.
• 8+ years of experience developing user stories and use cases in accordance with business analysis best practices.
• 8+ years of experience designing wireframes and/or mockups in accordance with UX best practices.
• 5+ years of demonstrated strong communication and facilitation skills.
• 5+ years of demonstrated strong writing, documentation, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience working for or closely with a government agency, educational organization, or education technology/vendor organization.
• 2+ years of experience using  Atlassian Jira for issue tracking and project/requirements management.
• 2+ years of experience using  Modern Requirements or a comparable requirements management platform.
• Experience working in Agile environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Experience facilitating requirements workshops and stakeholder meetings.
• Experience with process modeling, workflow analysis, and UX documentation.
