Lower end of range will apply to candidates who meet minimum experience or have limited years of relevant experience. The higher end of range will apply to seasoned candidates with considerable years of relevant experience.

PATH is seeking candidates passionate about helping others make a positive change in their lives to join our Interim Housing team as the Lead Cook at the RHC location.

Since its foundation in 1984, PATH (People Assisting The Homeless) has pioneered bold and effective approaches to assist people experiencing homelessness. PATH operates services throughout California, connecting our clients to a comprehensive continuum of homelessness prevention, street outreach, employment preparation and placement assistance, individualized case management, supportive services, interim housing, and permanent supportive housing.

ABOUT THE JOB
As part of the Interim Housing team The Lead Cook helps create a welcoming, homelike environment and develops nutritious meals for our guests. The work alongside a team of kitchen and interim housing program staff to ensure that all PATH Interim Housing guests receive three meals each day and snacks/refreshments throughout the day as needed.

Position Responsibilities include: 

• Customer service: Provide all guests with a home-like environment during their stay in the PATH Interim Housing program. Promote and follow interim housing established values, guidelines, and rules. 
• Volunteer Support: Assist all volunteers by providing all necessary food safety support to ensure that they have valuable experience.
• Food Preparation: Oversee the preparation of large quantities of food with staggered cooking, heating, baking, etc. Prepare food and beverages according to standardized recipes, production sheets, and menus.
• Meal Schedule Time Management: Ensure that guests' meals are served at established meal scheduled times and support other kitchen staff as required. Organize duties so that foods are prepared for service at appropriate times and within acceptable temperature ranges.
• Kitchen Management: Ensure the commercial kitchen runs smoothly, including coordinating staff schedules, stocking supplies, coordinating meal deliveries to offsite locations and delegating tasks.
• Inventory Management: Monitor food inventory levels. Request, store, label, rotate, and dispose of all food and supply items, perishable and non-perishable.
• Food Safety: Maintain health and safety codes in adherence with Department of Public Health standards which include proper food handling procedures, sanitation and cleanliness to the site and reporting any issues to management.
• Follow Proper Cleaning procedures: Maintain sanitary conditions during all food preparation and delivery by following correct infection control procedures and by thoroughly cleaning work areas and equipment in the department, including walls and floors.
• Menu Development: Assist with recipe development, modification and posting the monthly menu for the site.
• Dietary & Special Diets: Manage and maintain the up-to-date guest dietary restriction list for the site and ensure guests on the list receive their approved meals.
• Event Planning: Assist with organizing, preparing and set up on-site special events to include barbeques, holiday events, ice cream socials, and other events as assigned.
• Equipment Management: Operate all electric, gas and steam equipment properly which includes setting up a portable steam able served in the dining room. Maintain equipment in proper sanitary and operating condition.
• Donation Support: Provide support as needed with picking up and dropping off food donations and meals to multiple sites utilizing PATH company vehicle.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• A degree or diploma from a culinary program
• Five (5) years of experience in a professional kitchen

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Three (3) years of professional food service experience in a fast-paced environment
• Maintain an up-to-date California Food Handlers Certificate

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
Regardless of qualifications, candidates must:

• Have employment eligibility verification
• Have or be able and willing to obtain CPR/First Aid training
• Successfully complete the following as a condition of hire:
  • Tuberculosis Test
  • Background Screening
  • Drug Test

DRIVING
Driving is an essential function of this position. To meet the employment requirements for this role, all candidates must: 

• Have reliable transportation
• A valid driver's license
• Proof of insurance and ownership for personal vehicles used during work duties
• The ability to qualify for PATH's insurance coverage

We are a California employer. Therefore, all regular and customary work must be performed within the state. Approval for work outside of the office, does not establish approval for work to be conducted outside of California.

PATH does not offer fully remote positions. While some roles may include a schedule that involves multiple designated worksites or approved off-site locations (e.g., hybrid schedules), this does not imply that work will be performed from home. Many positions are fully on-site with no off-site work. All work schedules are determined by the responsibilities of the role and operational requirements, and may be adjusted at any time.
