Elementary Assistant Principal - Silver Ridge Elementary

Position Overview Central Kitsap School District is seeking equity-focused leaders who inspire staff to create hope and resiliency for our students and staff. As an educational leader in CK, you will have the responsibility to make a profound and lasting, positive impact on the lives of our students and staff. Essential Functions Actively promote and support the District’s vision, mission, and initiatives at the District and site level. Assist in developing, implementing, and sustaining a vision for a school culture focused on continuous student and staff learning leading to increased student achievement. Promote cultural understanding and competency and a climate of equity and inclusion. Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of program improvement plans focused on student achievement while effectively addressing and reducing achievement gaps using relevant data and research‑based practices. Assist to direct, supervise, facilitate, and evaluate the instructional, guidance, and other programs of the building; assist instructional staff in aligning and implementing curriculum, instruction, and assessment with state and local learning goals. Ensure safe, efficient, and effective management of the learning environment in a manner that supports and addresses the District and building vision, mission, policies, and procedures; establish a school climate characterized by courtesy, dignity, respect, and collaboration. Select, provide professional learning, supervise, support, and evaluate staff. Collaborate with and actively involve families and community members; respond to diverse community interests and needs and utilize community resources. Promote collaboration and teamwork with peers and staff; promote shared decision making. Effectively manage human and fiscal resources to accomplish achievement goals. Assist in facilitating the development, review, and implementation of a school behavior plan; including restorative practice and MTSS. Actively participate in District leadership meetings and in‑service programs; maintain and update knowledge and skills necessary for success in the position by participating in professional development activities as needed or as assigned. Communicate with parents, staff, and community concerning the school programs, systems rules, and procedures, including student management issues and discipline. Nurture a positive school environment that celebrates, respects, and values diversity, where teaching and learning are made relevant and meaningful to students of various cultures. Facilitate problem solving when conflicts arise between students, parents, and school staff. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multicultural and diverse socio‑economic setting. Establish respectful and effective lines of communication amongst all stakeholders. Typical Qualifications Education and Experience: Master’s degree in education or related field; academic preparation for or experience in leading a culturally, racially and economically diverse student population. Demonstrated successful certificated teaching experience; implementing programs designed to prevent the dropout of at‑risk students; and, teaching multi‑level, open‑concept, and main streamed classes. Certificates & Licenses: Valid Washington state administrator certificate; some positions may require valid first aid and CPR certification; some positions may require a valid Washington state driver's license and/or a Class II driver's license. Clearances: Criminal justice fingerprint and background check. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge Of laws related to special areas (ASB, special programs, grants) Use effective staff development and improvement strategies Of effective practices, rules and regulations, related to staff supervision, coaching, and evaluation Effectively conduct and work through difficult issues and discussions Skills Articulate a shared belief vision for continuous improvement and life‑long learning Develop an atmosphere of personal responsibility, trust, and collaboration among students and staff Promote and ensure respect and equity in the treatment of staff and students Understand the needs and strengths of the individuals in the school Apply effective group processing skills Promote and model life‑long learning and continuous growth Recognize and celebrate efforts and achievements Guide staff through the change process while maintaining focus on student learning goals Assist staff in self‑evaluation leading to effective practice Use data to make informed decision‑making about instruction and assessment Use a variety of monitoring structures, e.g., informal observation, assessment analysis, formal lesson observation, etc., to improve instruction and assessment Use effective communication skills and strategies to: market the school to enlist community support, resolve conflicts among individuals and groups, build common focus and collaboration to enhance student learning Partner and collaborate with administrative colleagues Build collegial and collaboration relationships with and among school staff members Share leadership based upon situation and need Identify and involve business and community leaders and key communicators Use a variety of vehicles and tools to communicate about student learning with constituents, both within and outside of the school Celebrate success across the school and community Break down barriers between school and community; of diversity issues Provide appropriate and innovative supervision and leadership to the instructional program Abilities Knowledge of special education discipline/504 regulations and laws Shape school climate and implement systems that promote safety & order To use a variety of instructional, management, discipline, assessment, and placement options to establish an environment conducive to quality instruction Of legal and district policy requirements regarding discipline and safety To review, analyze, and revise school safety and discipline plans based on school data To establish and implement crisis plans and to follow up appropriately Respond effectively in a timely manner when incidents occur Communicate so that students, parents, and community members are confident the school is safe Identify and use community resources Implement the components and purpose of the Continuous School Improvement Plan (CSIP) Analyze data to assess the effectiveness of CSIPs Communicate clearly and interpret data results with constituent groups (staff, parents, board, community) Collaborate, consensus build, and problem‑solve with individuals and groups Create, facilitate and mobilize a group to implement the CSIP Focus staff on priorities of teaching and learning Guide staff in curriculum alignment process Assist staff in adjusting to and accepting changes, especially the changes in teaching, learning and assessment Of best practices of instruction and assessment Engage instructional staff in frequent conversations/reflection about classroom practice Supervise and evaluate school staff Model and lead staff in ensuring growth for every student through intentional efforts to eliminate outcome and opportunity gaps Assist with planning and implementing an integrated educational infrastructure to support special education and provide necessary interventions and support Model District standards of ethics and professionalism Follow District policies and the collective bargaining agreements Visit classrooms and use observation data to give feedback to teachers Monitor, assist, and evaluate staff implementation of school improvement plans and effective instructional and assessment practices Take appropriate steps when employees do not meet performance expectations or engage in misconduct Working Conditions Required to support a wide range of student achievement and behavior; required to remain flexible to meet students immediate needs; required to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize; may experience frequent interruptions; may occasionally work with distraught or difficult students; potentially exposed to ordinary infectious diseases carried by students; in some positions the necessary and appropriate instructional methods may require specific positions and movements, and sufficient stamina and exertions, to demonstrate techniques properly for student safety, or to conduct or direct students; in some positions precautions may need to be taken to prevent or lessen exposure of self and/or students to various materials, fumes, equipment, cutting edges or hot surfaces.
