Compensation: $90,000 – $110,000 / Annually
The Senior Benefits Specialist owns the strategy, administration, and continuous improvement of health, welfare, and retirement programs across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico, along with leave, workers' compensation, and select compensation activities. Success in this role means translating complex regulatory requirements and business needs into scalable, well-run programs — and serving as a trusted resource to leaders and team members across the organization.
As a Senior Benefits Specialist, you will:
- Lead the administration and continuous improvement of health, welfare, and retirement programs across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico, ensuring operational excellence and compliance
- Serve as the organization's subject-matter expert on benefits and retirement programs, partnering with brokers, carriers, retirement providers, and third-party administrators to optimize plan performance and resolve complex issues
- Own plan compliance, including ERISA requirements, annual testing, audits, and regulatory filings
- Lead benefit enrollments, communications, and team member education that enable informed decisions and maximize the value of the organization's benefits offerings
- Manage administration of leave of absence, ADA accommodations, workers' compensation, and unemployment programs, partnering with HR Business Partners, external vendors, and agencies to resolve complex cases and drive timely outcomes
- Own paid time off policies and practices, identifying opportunities to streamline processes, strengthen internal controls, and improve the team member experience across benefits programs
- Support compensation programs through job evaluations, market benchmarking, analysis, and data-driven recommendations that inform pay decisions
- Ensure programs remain compliant with applicable federal, state, provincial, and local laws and regulations, and prepare reporting that supports leader decision-making
- Develop and maintain scalable processes, documentation, and best practices that support continued growth and maturity of the Total Rewards function
As a Senior Benefits Specialist , you have:
- 10+ years of progressive experience in Benefits or Human Resources, including demonstrated ownership of benefits and retirement administration and regulatory compliance
- Strong working knowledge of the regulatory framework governing employee benefits, including HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, ERISA, and applicable Department of Labor and IRS regulations
- Experience supporting a multi-state and/or multinational workforce
- Proficiency with HRIS and benefits administration platforms
- Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency, including VLOOKUP, IF statements, TRIM, SUM, pivot tables, charts, and drop-down lists
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to organize and interpret data, develop recommendations, and prepare leader-ready reports and communications
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Preferred:
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or CEBS certification
- Experience using ADP as the HRIS system of record
- Experience administering benefits programs for Canada
Work Location: This position is hybrid (three days onsite, two days remote), based out of Walton Hills, Ohio, and requires that qualified talent be located within a commutable distance.
Travel Requirements: As necessary based on operational needs.
