Gate Checker

General Responsibility and Function: We are seeking a dependable, safety-conscious, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Gate Checker at our chemical manufacturing and logistics facility. In this role, you will serve as an important point of contact for drivers, visitors, and internal personnel while supporting the safe and efficient movement of trucks, units, and materials through the facility. The Gate Checker is responsible for verifying documentation, managing site access, coordinating truck traffic, completing required inspections, supporting unit processing, providing supplemental maintenance support, and maintaining accurate records. The ideal candidate will be organized, professional, comfortable working in an industrial environment, and committed to following established safety and operational procedures. Key Responsibilities: Manage the movement of trucks and authorized visitors entering and exiting the facility. Verify driver, truck, load, and visitor information before granting access. Check trucks and visitors in and out using the facility's designated tracking system. Review daily production and bulk schedules and prepare or distribute required paperwork. Operate the facility truck scale and accurately record truck weights. Review bills of lading, customer service documentation, schedules, and related paperwork for accuracy. Perform required truck and unit inspections upon arrival and prior to departure, documenting inspection results and communicating any issues or discrepancies to the appropriate personnel. Process inspections of units arriving at and departing from the facility in accordance with established procedures and documentation requirements. Verify unit condition, load preparedness, product identification, and other applicable requirements prior to movement or release. Collect product samples when required by established procedures. Process and receive empty drum and tote trailers. Scan, organize, and maintain inbound, outbound, inspection, and completed documentation. Direct trucks and visitors to designated staging and waiting areas. Coordinate with operations, customer service, drivers, maintenance, and other departments to keep traffic, inspections, and shipments moving efficiently. Provide supplemental hands‑on support to the Maintenance Team as needed, including assisting with equipment and unit maintenance activities within the employee’s training, qualifications, and authorization. Perform hands‑on replacement of valves, pigtails, and other applicable components as required, following established procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, PPE requirements, and all applicable safety protocols. Assist with inspection, troubleshooting, staging, preparation, and general maintenance activities as directed by qualified maintenance personnel. Identify and communicate equipment, unit, valve, pigtail, or other maintenance‑related concerns to the appropriate personnel. Follow established procedures for opening and securing facility gates during emergency situations. Maintain an organized and professional gate area. Complete housekeeping and facility cleanup activities during and at the conclusion of the workday. Follow all facility safety, security, quality, environmental, and operating procedures. Participate in required safety training, meetings, and other operational training. Perform additional duties as assigned to support safe and efficient facility operations. Skills & Competencies: High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience may be considered. Previous experience in transportation, logistics, manufacturing, chemical processing, warehouse operations, maintenance support, or a similar industrial environment is preferred. General understanding of industrial workplace safety practices and maintenance procedures. Ability to learn and follow site‑specific procedures, maintenance practices, and training requirements. Ability to safely perform hands‑on maintenance tasks, including valve and pigtail replacement, following established procedures and applicable safety requirements. Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and locate applicable safety information. Ability to read and understand Bills of Lading (BOLs) and Certificates of Analysis (COAs). Ability to learn basic product identification and facility‑specific terminology. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer‑based tracking systems. Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling paperwork, inspections, and records. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to identify and communicate equipment, unit, or operational concerns to appropriate personnel. Ability to interact professionally with drivers, visitors, coworkers, maintenance personnel, and internal departments. Dependable attendance and a strong commitment to completing assigned responsibilities. Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team. Must be comfortable working around trucks, chemical transport equipment, and within an active industrial facility. Work Environment: This position is based at a chemical manufacturing and logistics facility and requires regular interaction with truck drivers, visitors, operations personnel, maintenance personnel, and other employees. The Gate Checker will spend significant time in and around the facility’s gate and truck traffic areas and may move between indoor and outdoor environments throughout the workday. The work environment may include exposure to industrial noise, moving vehicles, changing weather conditions, and areas where chemicals or other industrial materials are present. Employees may also be required to perform hands‑on maintenance activities involving valves, pigtails, fittings, and other equipment or components. Employees are expected to remain aware of their surroundings and follow all applicable safety procedures while performing their duties. All hands‑on maintenance activities must be performed in accordance with applicable training, authorization, lockout/tagout requirements, PPE requirements, and site‑specific procedures. Proper use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses, gloves, protective footwear, and other site‑specific equipment, is mandatory when entering designated areas or performing tasks that require protection. All required safety training will be provided. Physical Requirements: The Gate Checker must be able to remain alert and attentive while performing responsibilities throughout the workday. The position requires frequent standing and walking, as well as bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and handling paperwork, tools, equipment, and components. The employee must be able to communicate verbally and hear instructions, alarms, vehicle activity, and other workplace communications. The position requires the ability to regularly lift or move items weighing up to 10 pounds and frequently lift up to 25 pounds. The position also requires the ability to safely perform hands‑on maintenance activities, including the removal and replacement of valves, pigtails, fittings, and related components, when assigned and properly trained. The ability to safely perform these physical activities while following all facility safety requirements is an essential function of the position. This position is based in a chemical manufacturing and logistics facility. While day‑to‑day activities are handled primarily from a climate‑controlled area, there will be times when the Gate Checker will be required to enter the general warehouse area and/or staging, loading, or storage areas to confirm load preparedness, product type, unit condition, perform inspections, assist maintenance personnel, or communicate with drivers, supplier representatives, maintenance personnel, and/or other employees as needed. The work environment includes exposure to hazardous materials, chemical fumes, noise, and temperature fluctuations. The role requires frequent use of communication systems, computers, and documentation tools, as well as occasional interaction with chemical transport containers, equipment, valves, pigtails, tools, and PPE. Compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations is mandatory. The Gate Checker must be proactive in identifying potential risks, reporting unsafe conditions or equipment concerns, ensuring adherence to established procedures, and maintaining safe operational standards for both on‑site activities and transportation logistics. Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, safety glasses, and respiratory protection, is required when interacting with materials or operations involving potential exposure. Safety training will be provided to maintain a strong safety culture.
