Production Expeditor 3

The Production Expeditor III is a senior production-control resource responsible for maintaining accurate visibility and execution of assigned manufacturing orders from release through completion and shipment. This role independently manages a complex, high-mix production queue, identifies risks before customer commitments are missed, coordinates recovery actions across departments, and provides reliable updates to Production, Planning, Sales, Quality, Engineering, and leadership. The Expeditor III also serves as a knowledgeable resource for Expeditor I/II team members and helps strengthen standard work, data accuracy, and follow-through across the expediting function.

Core Accountabilities

• Support the Company Mission, Vision, and Values and promote a positive customer experience.
• Independently manage and maintain visibility of a large portfolio of active manufacturing orders, including due dates, quantities, routing status, blockers, projected completion dates, and recovery actions.
• Establish daily priorities using customer commitments, past-due status, shortage risk, quality holds, tooling availability, capacity, and production readiness.
• Monitor orders through the production floor and verify that system status, planner boards, trackers, and actual shop-floor conditions agree.
• Identify late or at-risk orders early; clearly communicate the issue, business impact, responsible owner, required action, and recovery date.
• Coordinate with department leads, supervisors, planners, material control, Engineering, Quality, Tooling, Purchasing, Shipping, Sales, and Value Stream leadership to remove blockers and recover schedule performance.
• Follow up persistently and professionally on open actions, escalating when commitments are not met or when authority is required.
• Prepare accurate daily and periodic order-status updates, including past dues, recovery plans, shipment risk, capacity constraints, and significant changes to projected completion dates.
• Use Great Plains/ERP, SSRS reports, MS Planner, CPT, Excel, and other approved systems to research orders and maintain accurate comments, dates, quantities, and status information.
• Review routings, bills of material, work-order data, drawings, specifications, and customer requirements sufficiently to identify missing information or inconsistencies and route them to the correct owner.
• Support new product, first-article, engineering-change, and special-project execution by maintaining milestones and preventing NPI work from disappearing into the normal queue.
• Assist with capacity and constraint analysis and recommend practical solutions such as priority changes, alternate resources, material escalation, tooling support, or schedule resequencing.
• Train, coach, and provide day-to-day guidance to Expeditor I/II employees on queue control, order research, approved update formats, follow-up expectations, and escalation practices.
• Help maintain and improve expediting standard work, trackers, visual-management tools, and handoff practices; identify recurring causes of schedule misses and recommend countermeasures.
• Protect confidential, proprietary, export-controlled, and customer information and follow all applicable AS9100, ITAR, safety, quality, and documentation requirements.

• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Level III Success Expectations

• Can run the assigned queue with limited direction and provide a reliable view of what is due, blocked, at risk, and recovering.
• Communicates bad news early and brings a proposed next step—not only a problem statement.
• Demonstrates sound judgment when multiple customers, value streams, departments, or urgent jobs compete for the same resources.
• Closes the loop on commitments and does not rely on repeated reminders to maintain accurate status.
• Is trusted by production and leadership because updates are timely, specific, and grounded in verified information.
• Raises the capability of the expediting team through coaching, standard work, and practical process improvement.

Qualifications and Experience

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required; additional education in business, supply chain, manufacturing, or a related field is preferred.
• 4–6 years of progressive experience in production expediting, scheduling, planning, materials, manufacturing, or supply chain; equivalent demonstrated experience may be considered.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and shifting deadlines in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.
• Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing routings; Great Plains, SSRS, MS Planner, CPT, and advanced Excel experience preferred.
• Ability to interpret bills of material, routings, work orders, drawings, specifications, and production-status information.
• Strong written and verbal communication, follow-through, problem solving, organization, and influence-without-authority skills.
• Demonstrated ability to coach or train others and to hold cross-functional partners accountable respectfully and professionally.
• Aerospace/defense manufacturing experience and APICS/CPIM or CPSM certification are preferred.

Training Requirements

On-the-job training will be provided for applicable procedures, work instructions, systems, and department processes. Required recurring training includes applicable FOD, safety, documentation control, export-control/ITAR, quality-system, and other company-assigned topics.
