Department Information The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is the engine powering Georgia Tech's world-class research enterprise. We provide comprehensive, "cradle-to-grave" administration for research grants and contracts across a massive portfolio of federal, state, university, and non-profit sponsors. More than just a central office, OSP is a strategic partner to our faculty. Our team leads everything from proposal submission and complex contract negotiation to active award monitoring. We are also deeply invested in growing our people, driving campus-wide professional development through our multi-tiered Research Administration Certification program and the quarterly Research Administration Buzz (RAB) networking community. Location Washington, DC / Northern Virginia Orlando, FL Huntsville, AL Tucson, AZ San Diego, CA Boston, MA Warner Robbins, GA Job Summary The Contract Officer for Sponsored Programs is responsible for managing the negotiation, execution, and administration of contracts related to research funding and sponsored programs. This position ensures compliance with institutional policies and federal regulations while providing guidance and support to faculty and researchers throughout the contracting process. Responsibilities Review and analyze research proposals to ensure they meet institutional standards and comply with sponsor requirements before submission Negotiate contract terms and conditions with funding agencies to protect the institution's interests while facilitating research initiatives Draft, edit, and finalize research contracts and agreements to ensure clarity, compliance, and alignment with institutional policies Provide guidance and support to faculty and researchers throughout the contracting process by answering questions and addressing concerns related to contracts and funding Monitor and manage the compliance of awarded contracts by ensuring that all terms and conditions are followed during the life of the grant or contract Maintain accurate records of all contracts and agreements to ensure proper documentation and facilitate audits and reviews Conduct training sessions for faculty and staff on contract management and sponsored program policies to improve understanding and compliance Stay informed about changes in federal regulations and funding agency policies to ensure the institution's compliance and enhance its research capabilities Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including legal counsel and finance departments, to address issues related to contracts and sponsored programs Perform other job-related duties as assigned Educational Requirements Bachelor's degree in related discipline or equivalent, related experience Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in related discipline or equivalent, related experience Required Experience 6+ years of relevant experience Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree, JD, MHA (Masters in Health Administration), MPH (Masters in Public Health) or equivalent combination of education and experience. Educational or professional experience in healthcare, life sciences, clinical research, research administration, public policy, or a related field is preferred. Preferred Experience Six or more years of job-related experience, including experience negotiating, drafting, and administering research-related agreements in a university, academic medical center, healthcare, research institute, government, or other research-focused environment. Experience with agreements supporting clinical, biomedical, human subjects, or data-intensive research is strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following agreement types: data use agreements, non-disclosure agreements, material transfer agreements, sponsored research agreements, clinical trial agreements, collaboration agreements, and subawards. Experience negotiating and interpreting provisions related to intellectual property, publication rights, confidential information, data use restrictions, and other research-specific contractual terms. Experience evaluating data-sharing arrangements involving identifiable, de-identified, limited, clinical, genomic, or other regulated research data, including associated data security and use restrictions. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with investigators, technology transfer offices, compliance functions, legal counsel, research security personnel, and external sponsors to resolve complex research contracting issues. Experience interpreting and applying regulatory, privacy, and compliance requirements applicable to research activities, including human subjects research, HIPAA, data privacy, research security, export controls, and related federal sponsor requirements. Experience evaluating contractual, regulatory, and operational risks; negotiating contract terms with internal and external stakeholders; and communicating complex legal, compliance, and business issues to diverse audiences. The Contract Officer for Sponsored Programs will manage the negotiation, execution, and administration of research-related agreements, with particular emphasis on data use, material transfer, confidentiality, clinical, and other agreements supporting biomedical and data-intensive research.
