The Specialist helps learners understand testing options, assess readiness, develop individualized testing plans, schedule examinations, access academic and nonacademic supports, and navigate diploma and transcript processes. The role also maintains accurate testing records, monitors learner progress and performance targets, and partners across Academics, Student Support, Testing and Tutoring, and Career and College Services to remove barriers and help adult learners reach their goals. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES LEARNER ASSESSMENT, READINESS, AND REGISTRATION Explain the GED pathway, testing process, eligibility requirements, and available supports to prospective and enrolled learners through orientations, information sessions, and individual coaching. Conduct individualized pathway conversations with upper-level ABE learners and others considering a high school credential to help them make informed decisions about GED and other available completion options. Administer and coordinate readiness activities, including GED Ready practice tests, computer and calculator tutorials, and digital-literacy assessments such as Northstar, in accordance with applicable procedures. Assist learners with creating, registering, validating, and maintaining MyGED accounts and resolving routine account or registration barriers. Verify that learners meet identification, residency, and other testing requirements before appointments are scheduled. Guide learners through the testing-accommodation request process and coordinate documentation and follow-up while maintaining confidentiality. GED PATHWAY COACHING AND LEARNER SUPPORT Develop individualized testing plans with clear milestones, target dates, and regular check-ins; update plans as learner needs or assessment results change. Collaborate with principals, assistant principals, teachers, tutors, and Student Support staff to align academic plans, learner schedules, testing readiness, and wraparound supports. Use GED Enhanced Score Reports and other assessment data to help learners build focused study plans and connect them with tutoring, instructional materials, calculators, technology, and other needed resources. Navigate learners through the full testing process, including exam scheduling, reminders, rescheduling, score review, and next-step planning. Plan and facilitate learner cohorts, workshops, boot camps, study sessions, and other evidence-informed activities that strengthen preparation, persistence, and completion. Partner with Career and College Services and Workforce programs to help learners connect credential attainment to postsecondary education, training, and employment goals. Conduct timely outreach to learners who miss appointments, pause testing, or disengage, and coordinate reentry supports that encourage completion. TESTING OPERATIONS, DATA MANAGEMENT, AND REPORTING Implement and maintain consistent workflows, calendars, checklists, and communication practices that support efficient and equitable testing services. Manage the inventory, issuance, reconciliation, and documentation of GED Ready and official GED testing vouchers in accordance with organizational procedures. Enter testing activity, assessment results, appointments, learner contacts, and coaching notes accurately and promptly in the student information system and other designated platforms. Complete routine data-quality reviews, resolve discrepancies, and monitor progress toward school, program, and performance-management targets. Prepare recurring and ad hoc reports on learner readiness, testing activity, pass rates, credential completion, barriers, and follow-up actions for program leadership. Complete graduate exit procedures and coordinate the ordering, receipt, distribution, and documentation of initial GED diplomas and transcripts. Maintain organized electronic and paper records, including monthly score reports, transcripts, diplomas, and supporting documentation, consistent with confidentiality and records-retention requirements. COLLABORATION AND ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Participate in learner case reviews, data meetings, staff meetings, professional learning, and cross-functional planning related to GED progression and credential attainment. Build productive relationships with learners, staff, testing partners, and external agencies while providing responsive, respectful, and solutions-oriented service. Support testing-related events and learner activities across AoH locations and partner sites, including occasional evening activities when program needs require. At least two years of experience in adult education, student services, academic advising, testing services, case management, or a closely related area preferred. Knowledge of adult basic education and the GED testing process, including learner readiness, testing accommodations, and credential-completion requirements, strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to coach adult learners, build trust, maintain appropriate boundaries, and respond effectively to varied academic, technology, and life circumstances. Experience maintaining detailed records, managing multiple appointments and deadlines, completing data-quality checks, and producing accurate reports. Strong written, verbal, presentation, interpersonal, problem-solving, time-management, and organizational skills. Ability to interpret policies and procedures, exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and communicate requirements clearly to diverse audiences. Proficiency with common workplace technology, including Google Workspace or Microsoft Office; experience with student information systems, testing platforms, or case-management systems preferred. Commitment to AoH's mission, academic goals, and learner-centered philosophy, and the ability to work collaboratively across teams and campuses. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Regularly remain in a stationary position and move throughout office, classroom, and testing spaces for extended periods. Use a computer, telephone, testing equipment, and other standard office technology for sustained periods. Communicate and exchange information with learners, colleagues, and partners in person and through virtual or telephone-based platforms. Occasionally bend, reach, kneel, or crouch and lift or move materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Travel between AoH campuses and partner or testing locations as needed. WORK ENVIRONMENT This is a primarily on-site position which will be assigned to either the Ward 5, Ward 8, or Sycamore campus, with regular interaction in office, classroom, and learner-service settings and occasional work at other AoH or partner locations.
