Radiologist-in-Chief Head, Pediatric Radiology and Imaging Position Description The Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC) Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Radiology and Imaging at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) are actively seeking a full‑time board‑certified physician leader for the position of Radiologist‑in‑Chief and Head of Pediatric Radiology and Imaging at CHLA and Vice Chair, Pediatric Radiology at KSOM. The academic rank of the successful candidate will be full Professor of Radiology. As a pivotal enterprise leader, the individual will provide oversight for faculty activities and delivery of medical care across critical environments, support the academic success and professional development of faculty, fellows, and team members, and champion growth within the department. Candidate Attributes The ideal candidate is a pediatric radiologist who is board‑certified and has a strong orientation toward department operations, an accomplished clinical research record, and prior successes in developing and mentoring faculty. They demonstrate the ability to inspire and motivate through vision, have a track record of bringing teams together, manage people around short and long‑term objectives, understand the business of academic medicine, support resource stewardship, communicate clearly and professionally, build high‑performing teams, and engage in strategic thinking and decision‑making. Responsibilities The candidate will balance decision‑making across a wide variety of care settings and oversee division chiefs and vice chairs, supervise non‑physician administrative team members, champion department growth, engage in program development, and provide leadership and mentorship for education and research. Provide leadership and strategic direction to division chiefs and department vice chairs at the enterprise, department, and hospital level. Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality clinical services. Create a positive work environment and promote professionalism and effective communication. Build strong partnerships with other division leaders, both internal and external, to collaborate on clinical activities. Monitor and understand local and national healthcare forces and ideate how they may influence the discipline. Identify and champion opportunities for growth of clinical, research, and educational programs. Participate in implementation of growth plans and monitor performance. Participate in departmental and division fundraising activities and represent the division at events. Oversee division budget in collaboration with academic and administrative leaders, develop and participate in annual budgeting, and operationalize financial strategic plans. Coordinate educational activities for radiology in collaboration with education/fellowship services. Develop and conduct cooperative research programs. Lead quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives with QA/QI teams. Deliver academic and performance evaluations for division faculty in accordance with required procedures. Grow the faculty pipeline and recruit new talent. Approve faculty appointments, reappointments, and promotions. Ensure clinical care meets departmental needs with quality and productivity standards. Partner with leadership across the CHLA enterprise to maximize impact of clinical delivery and operations. Requirements Primary board certification in Radiology. Minimum of 5 years of division leadership experience at a large, complex academic children's hospital or academic medical center, preferably in a diverse, urban and highly regulated market with a high Medicaid‑insured patient population. Successful track record leading cost‑management initiatives and experience with budget management preferred. Demonstrated commitment to professional development, mentoring, and coaching of faculty and team members. Academic achievement of associate professor status or higher preferred. Must be licensed (or eligible for licensing) in the State of California. Compensation Considerations CHLA/KSOM provides a competitive compensation package that recognizes an individual’s experience, credentials, and education, alongside a robust benefits program. The compensation information listed is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements. Additional pay may be determined for candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
