What You’ll Do:
The Data Center Design team is the technical engineering team responsible for the architectural and infrastructure design standards across CoreWeave's global portfolio, ensuring facilities are highly scalable, efficient, and optimized to support next-generation, high-density compute workloads. The team governs the entire design lifecycle from early-stage site feasibility through final technology fit-out, establishing the foundation for seamless construction and long-term operational success. Through continuous technical innovation and standardization, they enable CoreWeave to rapidly and reliably scale its physical footprint to meet global infrastructure demands.
About the role:
As a Senior White Space Design Engineer, you will report to the Senior Manager, White Space Design and support the design and delivery of white space infrastructure across CoreWeave’s expanding data center portfolio. You will serve as a senior individual contributor, applying deep technical expertise to develop designs, perform engineering analyses, review consultant deliverables, and resolve complex multidisciplinary coordination issues.
You will work closely with internal engineering teams, third-party design consultants, Construction, Operations, Network Engineering, Supply Chain, and Commissioning to ensure white space solutions are scalable, standardized, constructable, and operationally sound. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone comfortable working through detailed technical challenges and driving designs from concept through construction handoff.
In this role, you will:
- Develop and review white space layouts, infrastructure designs, specifications, details, and engineering documentation.
- Support the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of CoreWeave’s White Space Basis of Design, technical standards, and reference designs.
- Perform detailed technical reviews of high-density power distribution, liquid- and air-cooling systems, equipment layouts, containment systems, and low-voltage pathways.
- Design and coordinate white space electrical systems, including PDUs, RPPs, busways, branch circuits, rack power distribution, grounding, and associated infrastructure.
- Design and coordinate white space mechanical systems, including remote CDUs, liquid-cooling distribution, fan walls, hot aisle containment, and other high-density cooling solutions.
- Review structured cabling systems, ladder rack, cable tray, overhead conveyance, and network pathways in coordination with Network Engineering.
- Review construction drawings, shop drawings, equipment submittals, RFIs, design changes, and field conditions for compliance with project requirements and CoreWeave standards.
- Identify design gaps, constructability concerns, operational risks, and multidisciplinary conflicts, and develop practical solutions in collaboration with project stakeholders.
- Provide technical direction and oversight to third-party design consultants to ensure their work meets project requirements, applicable codes, and CoreWeave standards.
- Support projects during construction, commissioning, and deployment by responding to technical questions and resolving field-related design issues.
- Participate in design workshops, coordination meetings, constructability reviews, and lessons-learned sessions.
- Apply lessons learned across projects to improve design quality, repeatability, speed, and scalability.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers while contributing to a collaborative, high-performing design organization.
Who You Are:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Network, Low Voltage/Cabling, or related field).
- 7+ years of experience in data center design, mission-critical infrastructure engineering, or white space design leadership.
- Direct experience with data center white space infrastructure systems, including PDUs, RPPs, busways, branch circuits, hot aisle containment systems, remote CDUs, fan walls, and high-density cooling strategies.
- Experience working as a consulting engineer, design consultant, or owner’s representative overseeing third-party design consultants.
- Documented knowledge of low-voltage infrastructure systems, including structured cabling, ladder rack, cable tray systems, overhead conveyance, and network pathway coordination.
- Documentation & Review: Experience reviewing and interpreting construction drawings, shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and design change documentation.
- Software Proficiency: Hands-on proficiency with engineering and project management tools, specifically AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Asana, Smartsheet, or equivalent platforms.
- Industry Standards: Compliance and working knowledge of data center design standards and industry guidelines, including TIA-942, BICSI, ASHRAE, NFPA, and Uptime Institute.
Preferred:
- Professional Engineer (PE), Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD), or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Experience supporting hyperscale, High-Performance Computing (HPC), or high-density compute environments.
- Practical familiarity with capacity planning, scalability modeling, and design standardization.
