Details Surgical PCU functioning as a stepdown from the General Surgical ICU with a bariatric specialty and trauma backup role Includes 2 beds for chronic trach patients requiring CPAP/BiPAP support Typical patient ratio of 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4 Remote telemetry monitoring used across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units with tele-sitting support Night shift schedule, 3x12s from 1845-0715 Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 shifts per 6-week block One holiday required per 13-week contract, with 2 holidays required during the winter holiday period Floating required within skillset EPIC EMR experience required Requirements Active VA State or Compact RN license required, unless candidate holds a pending single-state license from a non-compact state Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required Minimum 1 year of RN experience required, 2 years preferred, ideally at a 250 bed hospital Strong post-op patient care experience required Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management required Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care required Ventilator care experience for chronic trach patients required Experience managing cardiac drips (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, Ketamine) without titration required Respiratory support skills including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP required EPIC charting experience required Additional Information Facility is a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated, and a teaching hospital affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine Responsibilities include activation of Rapid Response and Code teams, isolation precautions, and use of specialty equipment such as ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach, endo tool, PICC lines, and MML First-time travelers will be considered if strong post-op experience at a similar facility is demonstrated Local candidates may be accepted based on facility radius guidelines Previous employees must have a break in service before returning as travelers, per facility separation policy All RTO requests must be submitted upfront prior to consideration American Traveler Job ID P-714536.
